1 day a week
I was a faithful listener 5 days (evenings) a week when you carried the sam sedar show. NOW ... I thought it would be at least once a week with Sam Sedar On Sundays, but you're not carrying it on Sunday! I know you had nothing to do with the AAR decision but what can you do for the Portland OR Sedar fans?

SAM SEDER PLEASE

Put on the Sunday show. He is a superstar. And drop Foghorn Legorn Shultz.

ditto to SamSamSam!!
Please add Sam Seder to your Sunday line up.  I really miss his wit and wisdom.  And, unlike a popular female host, he actually let's his guests finish their comments without talking on top of them.  That is something I appreciate.

SAM SAM SAM, Ed NO NO NO
The title says it all.
Posted By: Milo - Tuesday, May 22nd 2007 @ 7:59pm
sam?
Are you not doing Sams' Sunday show?  Not having Sam in the daily lineup makes all the shows more depressing.  I could handle all of them when Sam finished the day, now I can't do any of them. Sorry.  Please at least put his sunday show on. Not sure what NY is doing, feels like the DLC has bought AAR.
Posted By: dave - Tuesday, May 22nd 2007 @ 2:42pm
Sam Sam Sam!!
Since AAR was idiotic enough to cancel Sam Seder's daily show I've been waiting patiently for his Sunday show to start - but KPOJ is not airing it!  Please reconsider - Sam is great, and he'll be the perfect accompaniment to Sunday gardening!

stream AAR directly
I've been a faithful KJOP listener since day one and listen all day at work, in the car, and at home.  But, with the exception of the local 6-9 am show, I now prefer Air America's line up and will be streaming AAR directly whenever possible.  KPOJ is making a big mistake in insisting on running Ed Schultz.  Cut him and move Randi to noon so she'd be live.  Then Rachel Maddow live followed by the new Air Americans show live.  At 9:00, you could run either Mike Malloy or Jon Elliott.  But for now, I'll be streaming AAR and unfortunately only listening to KPOJ in the car.

well, I have to say
Love Rachel Madow, Thank you for moving her to a more worthy spot for her talents and inteligents. Lets talk about Ed Shultz a little bit, what a folksy corn ball' if he talks about fishing and or sports one more time, I will just have to turn off my radio. What happened to liberal talk? Like politics? If he gets any more full of himelf, he will explode. He is very so-so, i would rather hear Randi live, totally in love with the Goddes of talk radio, bring in Harrison on the Edge from LA, that is really smart, funny, and a million times better looking and informed tham Ed wll ever be. Sam Sedar on Sunday, we need it,the weekend lineup really blows. I like hearing Randi and Rachel again, I also love John Eliot, just not the exact same broadcast two days in a row.Put Same there instead.laura Flanders, love her!! Thom  Hartman, what a brilliant guy!! That is great radio!! Bring in Stephanie Miller, and trade for Ed Shultz.Thank you for bringing back Mike Malloy. It is nice to hear someone that is very real OMG is he real.

Mike Malloy belongs on right wing radio
Mike Malloy is the left wing version of hatemongers like Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly.  He wastes airtime spitting venom when he could be informing, inspiring or entertaining the listeners.  His show should be sandwiched between Sean Hannity and Bill O.  They may take opposite positions on issues (if they ever get to the issues), but they are cut out of the same cloth.  His bigotry is better suited to rightwing radio.

Sam Seder was informative and entertaining.  I miss his show.  Thom Hartmann is the best.  Unfortunately, now that he is on at 9:00 am, I don't get a chance to hear him.

Ed Schultz's ego is tiresome.  When he invited all Air America listeners to stop listening to his show, I accepted his invitation and no longer spend my lunch hour with "Big Eddie".

Under the old lineup, I would get in 6 to 9 hours of listening.  With the new lineup, I get in about 1 to 2 hours tops.  They only way I get to listen to Thom's national show is by downloading the mp3 file.

KPOJ - please stop polluting the airwaves with hate radio.  Send Mike Malloy packing.

Good luck.
This AA2 reminds me of my last job...organizational change twice a year. I hope this works out for your ratings.

Thank you for bringing back Mike Malloy. I don't listen to Ed because always refuses to discuss 911 as an inside job, and he has no edge to him (my opinion). I had a feeling the 6am to 9am slot was going to be the Wolfson Show at some point...why the secrecy?

I hope to get a good dose of Sam Seder soon, and I like Rachel Maddow more than I thought I would (having Kent Jones also helps).

Randi...you make me homesick for Manhattan!

And I know you need to make money, but I'm getting tired of that woman who is obviously making more than in her first month in da bidness.

Seder on Sundays
Sam Seder has a new show on Sundays and you are not running it!  Why not?  It started today, May 20th... I was tuning in to listen but NO!  You are not running it!  What's up with that?  You know how popular he was out here in Oregon?

Are you going to get with this program soon?  Your current line up is looking a little sad.  Thom Hartmann is great!  Randi is great!  Ed Schultz - so so.  Rachel and Laura luke warm.  But Sammy?  Sammy is HOT!!! Get him back if you want your ratings up!

Sam Seder on Sunday? Hello?
I sorely miss Sam Seder's weekday show, so I was looking forward to hearing him on Sundays.  Better than nothing.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like KPOJ is running the show.  The Sunday show isn't list on the KPOJ website (no surprise), so I checked in at 1pm, 2:30pm and 4pm, and he wasn't on.  I switched over to the Mariners game on 1080 The Fan.

Get with the program KPOJ.  And feel free to update your website (referring to Sam's last day, etc.)

Leave Ed Alone

I must admit I am an Ed head, I think Ed should get played live, what a wonderfull way to link the nations pergressives together. I like Tom Hartman's local show too. So why not just switch the time slots.

Its as simple as this BRING SAM BACK!!!!! :(

New line-up

I still think Thom and Heidi were better than Carl, Thom, and Heidi. It is BORING!!!!! Too muchof a good thing. I never listen full time anymore. Put Thom and Heidi back on as a duo. Then bring back Sam for the 9-noon slot. That would be worth listening to for the majority of the time.

We could survive without ED! He is so arrogant that a person wants to ask him to just stop talking for a minute. He seems a bit corny.Besides he is not progressive. He seems just a bit morre liberal than Rush!!!

How about Stephanie Miller? She would be a good fit somewhere . She is fresh, funny, and intelligent. Something Gun toting, loud mouth Big Eddy is not!

Keep working on the programming. It still needs tweaking!

Desired Addition to KPOJ Lineup

Please..give us The Stephanie Miller show.  Never have I heard a more refreshing, spirited, absolutely humorous yet politically correct radio show!  Too much "Tom Hartmann" happening in the morning.  Tom is knowledgeable and I do appreciate his local show with Heidi and Carl (very nice addition).  I think, however, we need a "different kind of show" to give us a happier, uplift to all the mayhem going on in the current administration and politics in general.

Thank you kindly,
Dr. Don Warford

Just wondering............
Could you tell your listeners if KPOJ gets paid from Air America to air certain shows at certain times........
Is this what drives your "evolution".......???

SamSamSam.....
Where is Sam? I can't bear it. Air America cancelled it's soul and has replaced it with a pimple called Lionel. Can you plug Sam in on Sunday somehow???......Ed's racist rants on immigration remind me of why I never wanted to move back to the Midwest......Delighted with Rachel and Mike.....JRC

KPOJ schedule
I would like to see/hear the following:
(l)  Shift Ed Schultz and the Satellite Sisters to another Portland Clear Channel station.  Since they are not Progressive, they would fit in better and people would still have access to them.
(2)  If you have to re-run something, let it be Thom Hartmann's national program, which I consider to be the most educational.
(3)  Broadcast the new AAR programs;  broadcast all programs as close to "live" as possible.  Old news is boring to say the least.

a few thoughts.....
1.  Weekdays 3pm-6am are great!
2.  Dump the silly sisters on sat am, can't stand them and end up finding a computer stream of something to listen to!
3.  The local weekday show is Boring!  Get Stephanie Miller for the 6-9 slot.
4.  Ed is a redneck bore.
5.  Mike Malloy is the best thing on radio.  Thanks for bringing him back KPOJ!!!!!!!!
Posted By: anonymous - Friday, May 18th 2007 @ 11:56pm
Really dislike Mr Schultz
Hey can you get rid of Mr. Schultz?  He had such an enormous ego and bad mouths Air America.  I listen regularly and the only time I turn you off is when he is on.  I like Randi to be a little later in the day.. 4 to 7 works better.  Rachel is so so and Mike is a hoot.

I only listen to one of Thom's shows... it gets to be too much.
Posted By: deena - Friday, May 18th 2007 @ 10:14pm
Mark Riley
Glad to see Mark Riley is still on the lineup however it would be nice if he had a little more time and at a decent hour.  It would be better if Mark Malloy was on in the really late hours as I for one don't enjoy listening to him.  He's cured me of listening to the radio in the evening.

Schedule
Hi,
I think you have gotten a handle on the schedule during the week, please leave it alone and let us become used to the hosts. It goes better if you can find the show you want at a set time.

Weekend mornings need a consistant host, to develope better listener ties.

I like that you now aren't running repeats, all night.

More power at night would be great.

Bring Sam back!
I love the morning line up with Thom and Heidi and Carl. (and Thom's national show!)  I would easily give Ed up for Sam ! Ed is ok..but 2 hrs is usually enough. Absolutely love having Mike back! His passion is unmatched! Also, if you do any re-runs on weekends, run those shows that our time zone  usually doesnt get , like the Turks or Mike Riley. (Rachel is a hoot)

Thom Hartmann gets the good ads from small biz
Ed Schultz goes on and on about how local advertisers should not be afraid of liberal talk radio. Well, Thom is so good at presenting good information in a nonoffensive, entertaining way, that he gets ads from businesses just for him. I don't hear that with other hosts.

Ed Schultz is important because he's the most spontaneous of KPOJ's line up. Sometimes some real gems of truth surface on his show from the spontenaety. That's his strong point.

One more thing, live is best and since Thom has the live spot, put Randi on after Thom since she would be live. Then Ed next. I am mad at  Randi because she says some unfair cruel things sometimes but if she were live I'd be more likely to listen to her, rather than switch to NPR when she comes on.

PS. I love Lionel a lot.

I want Sam back!
I miss Sam. He jump started me on week days and I really miss him. I sometimes listened to him twice a day if I missed part of his morning show.

My top five:

1. Randi Rhodes
2. Sam Seder
3. Ring of Fire
4. Stephanie Edwards (I listen to her mornings when in So. Cal.
5. Mark Riley

Thom Hartmann is very bright but if I'm going to listen to more then one hour of talk.....I also have to be entertianed. I tend to fall asleep when he's on.

Why would they cut Sam Seder back to only once a week? He was a proven winner. I have yet to find him on Sundays. When is he on? Bring him back, damn it!!!

Air Americans
Since Mark Riley is coming back as the host of the Air Americans in the evening and not in his morning slot, I have to wonder how KPOJ is going to use that show. My preference would be to Move Mike Malloy to the Midnight-3AM slot because his rants do not fit all that well in the evening, but did fit better in the late night slot when he was there.
That would leave the 8PM-midnight slot open for the Air Americans. Considering this show will have not only Mark Riley, but also the Ring of Fire (including David Bender) and Laura Flanders, this show should be a much better fit for the evening hours - more information, less rants.
This does also remove the Jon Elliot show, but his show could be expanded on the weekend.
I agree with other people on this board that providing Air America shows live whenever possible would also be a positive move.

AAR 2.0
I heard Mark Green announce the new AAR 2.0 line up this weekend on Politically Direct.  With the exception of the Lionel show, it sounds very promising, and I hope KPOJ picks up most of the shows.  I especially hope you run the new Air Americans show (M-F, 5pm-9pm) and the new Sam Seder show (Sun, 1pm-4pm) in live slots.  I've enjoyed listening to Rachel Maddow at a reasonable time, but since I can't stand to listen to either Ed Schultz or Randi Rhodes, I usually stream Rachel live from Air America rather than listen to KPOJ during those hours anyway.

ED SCHULTZ LIVE BECAUSE.........

lots of workers listen to talk radio in the 9-12 time slot. I know because my work has me in contact with contractors at that time.
They are all listening to Rush Limbaugh or Lars Larsen.
Please give them a Dem who can reason with them....we could gain some voters!!
No offense....but Prof. Thom is not going to get them listening!

Why add Carl?
I'm confused.  Thom continues to fly solo on his national program while Carl takes over the local program with Thom in the supporting role and Heidi now playing Third String?  Heidi's performance running  the local show during Thom's unscheduled absence for his dad's funeral gave proof to her ability to have her own gig.  I only hope that her present role on the show is the one she really wants.

I enjoy the buzz I get from Thom, Heidi, and Carl in the morning but could do without the munchies and fits of paranoia.

Shows need to be LIVE
KPOJ is moving in the right direction.  Hartmann's AAR-syndicated program is finally live.  It's too bad Big Eddie had to change his broadcast hours.  I used to message him during his show which is no longer possible with the change to his live broadcast.  Since Ed Schultz can't be aired live (pre-empting Thom live--NOT AN OPTION) perhaps it would be best to air Randi Rhodes from 12-3 so KPOJ listeners could hear the show live (not everyone has the option of webstreaming/podcasting).  I prefer the lineup the way it is but I get the sense that KPOJ's audience potential is greater with a Ed-Randi time slot swap.  Ed's show is a definite keeper, though; move but absolutely don't dump.  Still need more David Bender during the week--please move his time slot to WAKING HOURS (9-10).
Posted By: FOIA Gras - Monday, May 14th 2007 @ 2:30am
Thom is my favorite.
I only get to hear Thom on the morning show now, and not enough because of the new format with Carl. I really miss hearing his national show, but can't hear it much either because of the time slot. Later in the evening or night works much better for me. Maybe a best of show on the weekend.
Carl is OK, but I would rather have the original format with only Thom and Heidi.
I enjoy listening to Ed and I sure miss Sam Seder.
Ring of Fire is also a favorite on the weekends.
Eco-talk sounds interesting, though I have only heard it once.

KPOJ has a great Liberal Heritage ..... from the days of the afternoon Oregon Journal Newspaper during the 1940's & 1950's.  Keep on Keeping on!
Here's my BIG 7 Progressive listening List:
1 - Thoman Hartmann nationwide, scope and depth;
2 - Ed Schultz, passion and heartland common sense;
3 - Randy Rhodes, humor and toughness;
4 - Bobby Kennedy and Mike Papantonio, Ring of Fire;
5 - Rachel Maddow, polished, polite and pleasing;
6 - Mornings with Thom, Heidi and Carl;
7 - Mike Malloy, strident but entertaining.

Where is Sam?
I listen to KPOJ from 6am to 4pm daily at work. I think the Ed Schultz show loses some of its' appeal to me because it is three hours behind in real time. I like Ed, but some times I think he is way too right for me! Love KPOJ and I would really like to see the Sam Seder Show back on Air America.
Posted By: Roger - Friday, May 11th 2007 @ 9:31pm
Happy about Mike; Irritated about Ed
I am so glad Mike Malloy is back on the only progressive radio station in Portland.

However, because we have only one progressive station in town, we ought to use it for the best progressives; that does not include Ed.  I cannot listen to KPOJ when he is on.  And that his program is repeated Saturday night is awful!

I like the entire, smart, progressive, Air America Radio line up.  (Which does not include Ed.)

Do I have a vote?
P.S.  Please keep Mike!

Too Much Thom
Thom Hartman is a historical genius. But history is BORING for six hours straight. I need three hours of a hysterical genius -- and that's Sam Seder. Please bring him back in the 9am to noon slot, a time when I cannot afford to fall asleep.

It's For the 60 IQ People Around You
The Current KPOJ Line-up is FINE. Ratings slip probably is effecting all of Radio right-now, including Hate Radio, as slippage always occurrs in a Non-Election Year, plus people are in their cars less nowdays, due to Bush's Gallon of Gas Tax. You-all Progressives must put-up with Big Eddie, Just as I was not happy with Imus's Demise. These formatts communicate with BONE-HEAD America. You Know---the Drons that surround you when your stopped at a Light, or in a Store or Restaraunt. Big Eddie is able to communicate with these 60 IQ Drons, some of which may actually Vote & help continue Our Cause. As for Imus, that show routinely referred to Bush & Cheney as War Criminals, as they are. What was amusing--is that--that was on Corporate Media, the only referral of that type on Corporate Media--and was in a serious manner. Imus should have been severely penalized for his name-calling of those Ladies in N.J. But now the 60 IQ Drons out-there in Radio / TV-Land don't get their daily dose of, "Bush / Cheney are War Criminals". I don't like any loss of MainStream Media that was aiding Our Cause,--thats how important it is too bring-Down the, "House of Bush", before America is completely devoured by Mr. Corporation. In a perfect non-Dron America--I would have little-use for Eddie, & none for Imus. As for Randi---leave it alone--She has a different type of passionate listener that helped put AAR & KPOJ get were they are today. I mostly listen to Her in the background, cause she gives Me a Headache TOO. And 6 Hours of Hartmann is 6 Hours of 180+ IQ, that will hurt No-One. Eddie's show is usually much better when He's off Fishing or whatever, His stand-In is much more Progressive, & smarter. Just Leave My MIKE MALLOY Right where it is, and KPOJ then is just fine with it's current line-up.___ J.E. Silverton. P.S.--I like Sam also--was Hoping Olbermann might pressure MSNBC to giv-Him the Imus Vacancy.

"Eddie"
I grow tired of listening to Ed Schultz.  He is a one note band on unions.  He frequently does not have facts at hand on other relevant issues.  My wife never could stand listening to him.  Surely there are better options.

Bring back Sam
Ed is full of himself. Sometimes has decent news to discuss but most of the time is just talking about how great he is and ripping on the Air America folks. Not very professional.   Sam was really funny and had great coverage. Thom is OK but 6 hours is too much.
Posted By: Julie - Friday, May 11th 2007 @ 2:07pm
Ed SUCKS
I am so tired of listening to silence from 12-3pm.  I refuse to listen to Ed.  I gave him a try a year or so ago.  He doesn't know what he is talking about most of the time.  The rest of the time he is talking about how great he is and how great his ratings are and that he is the # 1 progressive talker.  The problem is, he isn't progressive.  KPOJ is way to good for that guy.

Also, I love Thom.  I was really nervous about Carl coming in to the show, but he has grown on me.  We need the local show, so it was a good change to keep that show and to get Thom's national show.
Posted By: Sue - Friday, May 11th 2007 @ 1:29pm
KPOJ Mornings
I do like Carl, however, as was my concern when I first heard about the proposed change, the dynamic has been negatively affected.  I have to agree with Jerry....."the addition... takes away from the chemistry of the program making it less enjoyable."

I like Thom's National show & having it on directly after the morning show, but neither of the programs are as wonderful as the local Thom Hartmann Show used to be.

How about moving Carl to the National show.... ?

That could be a perfect way to improve the chemistry of both programs.

Ed and Randi LIVE!!!

Too much Hartman??  Don't know....but please give your listeners LIVE radio TALK shows.
Ed Schultz would kick Lars butt! (and get KPOJ NEW listeners)!

My Opinion
I don't catch all your programming, but of the commentators I've heard I enjoy Thom Hartmann, a very intelligent yet non-abrasive
presence;then there's Randi at the opposite end of the spectrum.Initially I thought she offered a nice alternative to all the obnoxious righties on the airwaves, but now she just gives me a pounding headache. Very shrill and abrasive...
I enjoy Ed quite a bit. I find him quite funny and he certainly offers a nice balance.
Like all of us, I miss Al a LOT!

If you could orchestrate the return of Morning Sedition and The Sam Seder Show, I would lose 6 hours out of my day M-F. (A loss I am eager to accept)

Line up
Thom and Heidi are great.  Thom can always be counted on to present a well thought out, rational outlook.  The addition of Carl takes away from the chemistry of the program making it less enjoyable.

Ed provides itelligent, folksy commentary.  His down to earth style is refreshing when compared to "in your face programs" like Randy Rhoades.

Randy Rhoades brings passion, but she needs to better her game by conducting more research.  When Bush is gone I wonder what she'll have to talk about.  Her approach seems less thought out and less professional.  The AirAmerica equivalent of a less intelligent Michael Savage.
Posted By: Jerry - Wednesday, May 9th 2007 @ 12:15pm
Wrong!
i think that it would be wrong to take Ed off and replace him with someone else.  There is a large progressive audience that wants to hear some middle of the road topics and other things that Ed covers because he is not part of Air America.  I love listening to your station.  I do not even listen to any other station on the radio.  But if Ed goes off I will listen less often because I get tired of some of the negative talk that other show hosts get involved in. It seems that AAR puts out talking points on a daily basis and every host must hit those topics.  So after a couple of shows it is the same old thing.  I would like to have Sam Seder show back in an evening slot.  I love listening to Thom on both shows.  I feel he provides an excellent format for discussion and real learning because he is so politically educated.  I love Randi but it really does not matter because she would be so unfamilar with our area of the country.  I like it when there is more talk about real issues that effect people, especially the topics that effect us in the Northwest.  We must stand in solidarity to over come the conservate agenda.

2.  Post imminent schedule changes with dates (e.g. Flanders said 5/5/07 that she would be moved to another time slot in 3 wks. WHAT, WHEN, WHY are these changes made?
3.  Thanks for putting Malloy back on.  Now give us Sam Seder also!
4.  Get rid of Satellite Sisters, and give us MUCH less of Rhodes.
5.  My favorites are:  Malloy, Maddow, Flanders, Ring of Fire; Schultz is o.k. and a little bit of Hartmann goes a LONG way. The rest are ho-hum.

Thanks for letting me comment.

Ms
Keep Ed.   We need some voices from the middle of left.
I am not a hunter or interested in sports or fishing, but why not?
It seems that we as liberals need to appeal to others than our base to keep or get in control.   So, stay with ED.

Love everything else in the lineup!

Wish Randi was live.

Thank you for the good choices.

I also dislike Ed
Why can't you bring back SAM and get rid of ED?  I have been a totally loyal listeners and only turn you off when Ed is on.  I attempt to  listen to your advertisers, like Paramount Equity, and do business with them.  I love the young turks (only hear the end of their show), love Thom...(might get me fired because I shut my door sometimes to listen to him), love Randi (have been known to sit in my driveway until neighbors ask if anything is wrong) and am so happy to have found people who see the world the way I do.

Proud to be an American women even if we do have a president that has made awful choices for us all.  Bring the troops home (mother of a son in the military)!!!

Best,

Liking It --

The strong point of this very successful franchise of the Air America network is that you have such a great variety of hosts, and they all bring fresh perspective and news to me.

If folks don't like Ed Schultz, or some one else, they should turn off the program and go read a book or something. I like Ed and I like the wide net he casts in inviting guests on his show. I like his attention to other topics on occasion as well.

It is the diversity that one finds under the large KPOJ umbrella that keeps us all tuned in. I have tried to listen to other stations, even the right wing stations with their monotone line ups. No facts, no diversity, and boring, press release propaganda make me quickly tune back to KPOJ.

Please keep the spectrum of opinions and presentations on your shows wide and free, and I'll keeep listening.

Thanks for the great radio!

sick of ed
I used to enjoy listening to Ed Schultz, but his over-inflated ego has become too much.  I'd much rather have Randi live.

Thank you for carrying Thom's national show live---six hours a day of Thom is great!  I am disappointed in your decision to bring in Carl Wolfson.  He seems to be agressively pushing Thom out of the show.  He interupts Thom frequently and talks to him like its the Carl Wolfson show.  Thom and Heidi were all we needed.  If Thom leaves the 6-9am show, I will too.  Thom has become an important member of our community, not so much with Wolfson.

Like many of the other posters, I am devistated at the loss of Sam Seder.  What was AAR thinking?  If they needed to cut costs, unload expensive Ed.

One of my favorite shows is Ring of Fire.  Too bad we can't have them five days a week.

And thank you for bring back Mike Malloy.  I love how he gets down and dirty about the Bush crime family!

Just visiting from out of town. Thanks for a great line up, and thanks for a variation from the Air America national line up, better than  XM and better than streaming!

the void Sam Seder leaves
Even us older hipsters miss Sam and the fun and critical thinking he brought us each day.  With so much positive feedback from so many of us, I feel optimistic about his return.  It's great to read here from so many like-minded others and love to see that so many share my opinions.  I. too. refuse to listen to Ed Schultz.

Lineup Changes.
I am still in withdrawal over the loss of Sam Seder.  I looked forward to his show and found him entertaining, intellegent, passionate and refreshingly honest.  Please, bring him back to Air America, even if it is only on Sundays!

Carl Wolfson is great, and an asset to Thom & Heidi on the Morning Show.  I love the extra time that you've given us to hear Thom Hartmann, and he deserves to have nationwide exposure.

Rachel, Laura Flanders, Ed Schultz and David Bender do a great job.  Enjoy Ring of Fire and sometimes Randy Rhoades.  Not so much the Satellite Sisters. (Just doesn't quite fit.)

Mr. Green, thanks for keeping Air America alive and giving progressives/liberals a sanctuary of sanity!  Keep up the good work.  Just bring back Sam Seder and it will be perfect!

I am grateful for Air America and its outstanding hosts.  Carl Wolfson is performing very well and I hope his success will allow Thom Hartmann to cut back to three hours a day.  Doing a six-hour show plus speaking engagements, writing, etc. is too much to expect of one individual.  My favorite hosts are Thom, Rachel, Sam (so sorry to lose him during the week), David, Jon,  Randi, and Mike.

Because I enjoy most all of your programs, I'm hesitant to criticize a few, but I don't think the Satellite Sisters fit the station's format.  Ed Schultz has good guests and is probably necessary for a segment of your listener group; however, I am weary of his lectures on narrow social issues, his inability to control his temper (generated primarily by a perceived assault to his outsize ego), and his unfair criticism of Air America.  The Young Turks are usually good, but sometimes are hard to understand because they talk too fast and run words together.

I'm certain that Air America was instrumental in the 2006 Democratic victory.  It's a rallying place for progressives and some hosts, notably Hartmann, urge listeners to become active in the political process.

Thanks for the effort to improve your lineup.  I notice more advertisers recently and hope this foretells a successful financial future.  Many good wishes.

Shifting Ed to a Lib football slot, Mike to Angry Lib spot
I love Ed. But if I want to hear fishing and football there are many outlets. I want to hear bright Libs who hate Nazies as much as I do. Mike makes me mad, and I break out my checkbook and send money to anyone who will help me fight my mortal enemies. (BTW--new member ffrf.org.)

Missing Sam Seder, and other comments

I'm missing Sam Seder a lot.  I think it was a bad idea for Air America to get rid of his daily show.  I hope he joins Nova M or something and gets to be broadcast in Portland again.  I will listen to him any chance I get.

I can't bring myself to listen to Ed Schultz since he told listeners that if they listen to AAR they should turn him off.  I've since switched to KINK radio when I run my errands.  If I'm at the computer, I'll listen to Randi Rhodes live online.  KPOJ can dump Ed Schultz any time.

Randi Rhodes is always good.

I want to like Rachel Maddow but she's just not funny to me and Kent Jones is even more unfunny.  If she would get rid of that schtick of hers and just be herself, I bet it would be much better to listen to.  If I hear her singsong the word "Monkey" one more time, I'll scream.  I like the fact that she always updates us on the news from Iraq and Afghanistan, but after that she and unfunny Kent seem to mug for laughs.  Ugh!

Mike Malloy is fun to listen to but I don't get a chance to hear him too much since he's on so late.

I do try to listen to Ring of Fire on Saturdays and David Bender on Sundays but weekends can be hit or miss for me.

Thom Hartmann is very informative and I'm getting to like him more and more.

Missing Sam's show
I am devastated by the loss of Sam Seder. I hope that you will continue to carry whatever show or network he may continue with, as often as possible!

I can't take 6 hours of Thom, and not sure I will bother with the 6-9 am show even if he leaves it. Can't abide Randi or Ed at all, so now I will have most of my days back to do other things. I can appreciate that Ed DOES really appeal to midwest, and hard core redneck types, which we have so many of around here! Right?

I really enjoy Rachel Maddow and Kent Jones, and am also happy to hear Mike Malloy again in the late evenings.

Glad we get a bit of Ring of Fire and Laura Flanders on the weekends, as well as David Bender, BUT...

I really miss Sam Ceder's show!! Bring him back, please. I am bereft, and not happy about how this whole thing with Air America went down. What could they possibly be thinking???

Very unhappy in Portland

Finally got it right!
I guess I'm in the minority around here, but I am DELIGHTED to see Sam Seder gone and Rachel Maddow in his place.  She is informative & delightful.  I also love having access to Thom Hartmann's national show.  Carl has very big shoes to fill taking over (even if it's not entirely) for Thom, but he seems to be doing a good job.  Ed Schultz is an excellent balance to the more extreme lefties and I enjoy his show immensely and as well as Randi'sl.  All in all, I think this lineup is PERFECT!  Please leave it as is.

THE RETURN OF MALLOY
Huzzah and hallelujah!

It sounds ironic, but listening to Mike is soothing at bedtime.  He vents all the rage that builds up in the liberal heart during the day, and it's like massage therapy

Missing Sam Seder
I am so sad to now have to listen to Thom Hartmann for six long hours.   Three hours was plenty of time to educate us.  We also need a bit of humor to lighten our day and Sam was perfect for informing us and yet making it fun.  Thom Harmann is obviously well versed in history, but he doesn't have humor. I wait each morning for his show to be finished.

Love Randi Rhodes, the Young Turks, Rachel Maddow, Ring of Fire, Mike Malloy.  I understand why Ed Schultz is good for attracting people in the midwest.

Have a hard time understanding why the Satellite Sisters are on this station.   They are boring.   I tolerate some shows but when the Sisters show up, I turn the radio off.

Please bring back Sam Seder.   Would love him back in the 9 a.m. slot.

So Progressive
Hey, it looks like only comments that fall in line with KPOJ get posted here. Oh well, I can always post my opinion somewhere else where more people, not just people from Portland, will see them and you won't have the option of approving them. Some fascists never learn.

Good job!
I have been on long vacation, so came back to this whole new schedule already in progress. Losing Sam is a shame.

I participated in Comment process when Al Franken left, and read most of comments. I must commend the station for doing such a good job of listening to the listeners, as there is quite a divergence of talk show taste.

I was in the Rachel Maddow/David Bender camp and greatly appreciate the greater exposure to their shows (including weekends).

Thanks for making your station feel a bit democratic!

OH NO NOT TOM HARTMAN TOO!!!!
Leave Tom Hartman on his local show.  Lets hear the national Tom Hartman show  absolutely.  Break up the two shows with someone else for a couple of hours if necessary.

I like the guests, the dialogue, the information, the civility.

Don't phase him out of his local show.  Get creative, think of a way to give us both.  You may loose a listener and strong supporter if the station bosses get even more stupid.

I have waited for years for a station like this to appear on the Portland scene.  Looks like the programing and dialogue may be short lived.  Why would that be?

Sam Sedar/phone call from a star
It was a mistake to fire Sam Sedar. is even this station being altered by the fascists?

conversation between the actor and his daughter, no matter how distasteful, is NOT NEWS.  I expected a higher standard here.

Lets hear more facts about how the Fascist party was/is placing persons in our legal system in order to alter the outcome of elections.

Lets hear more about the activities of those who would take away our freedom.  We need to know our enemies very very well.

I welcome Tom Hartman to Oregon, like your program.  Lets hope they don't try to get rid of your program.

I like the Ring of Fire.  another good program

David Bender is worth listening to as well.

Rachel Maddow is Tops!!!
So Glad you have her on earlier in the day.  How about airing ALL of her shows on the weekend again, not just the few in the early hours of Saturday?  You could drop Randi ("Ranting") Rhodes anytime without losing much.  She's so bullying and strident.  How about airing more "Ring of Fire" and Politically Direct with David Bender???!!  Replace Randi with Stephanie Miller and that would be perfect!!!!
Don't let Thom "slip, slide away" from the local P"land show, unless he must, for his sanity/energy.
Sam S. was a welcome addition.  Bring him back, too, if you can.
Oh, the Satellite Sisters are a coffee-klatch kind of radio, more like dull, non-political radio, sort of a diluted "View" (TV show).  Drop them.  Also, The Young Turks are NOT WELL INFORMED and are very repetitive.
SURE WISH  **STEPHANIE MILLER** could join the lineup.  Replace Randi Rhodes time slot??  Bring Sam back, if you can.  Mark Maron is missed, too.
I'm a devoted listener, as you can tell.  Keep working to improve your lineup and I'll just keep on buying what I can from the sponsors (including "Dave's Killer Bread").
  Thank you.

Sam was Great!
I think Sam ran afoul of the new Air America ownership with his criticism of Israel.  He certainly wasn't cancelled because he wasn't more entertaining or better informed or better on the phone than most of the Air America hosts.  There is no Democratic candidate who will ever express anything but undying loyalty to the state of Israel, and I think the Greens fall into that whole nexus, unfortunately.  If Sam gets a show anywhere, I hope KPOJ picks it up, whatever the source.  I don't see how he and his family can live in NYC on the pittance AA would pay him for one day a week.  We could take up a collection and bring him out here to replace a three hour block of Thom Hartmann.  Sorry, Thom, you're great, just not six hours great.

A Plea...
Please oh please dear God please for the love of all humanity take the Satellite Sisters off of the air!!!!  Often times I am on the road on Sat. morning and I end up listening to that right winger Jeff Kroft.

Also, we need a repeat of the Ring of Fire on Sunday.  They are great.

One last thing...Randi's style is embarrassing for progressives, even though she has a lot of good material.  Ed is a snooze.

Dump Malloy!
I don't listen to conservative talk shows so my point of reference is definitely limited.  However, from what I've heard it seems that conservatives yell, scream, call others names and generally try to intimidate listeners to agreeing with their points of view.  Unfortunately it sounds just like Mike Malloy!  He gives liberal/progressive talk show hosts a bad name.  KPOJ and AirAmerica should get rid of him.  Bring back Sam Seder.

Lineup thoughts
I think Carl is generally okay, but is Thom just there for moral support now?  You hardly ever hear him anymore.  I certainly hope he's not phasing himself out of the show.  I am already missing the history he shares and he's still there!  And Heidi can't seem to get a word in edgewise, which is not good for the show.

Mike Malloy is great - I'm so glad he's back.

I am very sorry to see Sam go from AA.  If another network picks him up, PLEASE run him on KPOJ - from the comments it would be a clear winner.

Sam, Marc Marron and Mike Malloy were my favorites on AA - now they're all gone.  What on earth has AA been thinking??

Stephanie Miller
I just moved from the Seattle listening area and REALLY miss the Stephanie Miller Show which aired from 6-9AM week days. After hearing the indepth coverage in serious detail all day, it was refreshing to wake up to her show humor and insight. Is there any thought of adding her show to the line-up of KPOJ?

Thanks for being a progressive choice to a new comer in the area!~

Please move Randi to another time

I love to listen to Thom Hartman and the morning crew because they have interesting guests and they let callers talk with overriding them always with their own opinions.  I really can't listen to Air America when I drive home in the afternoon because Randi just rants and rants.  She seldom has guests and shuts down callers who don't agree with her.  She repeats the time stuff over and over an it just gets so tiresome.  It makes progressive radio as bad as the right-wing talkers.  We don't need ranting - it doesn't promote any kind of dialog.

Posted By: anonymous - Thursday, April 19th 2007 @ 4:05pm
unhappy with the addition of Carl

I am sorry to say that after attempting to give it a fair shot, I find the addition of Carl Wolfson to the Thom and Heidi local show to be a huge mistake.  The show just drops in quality without Thom getting airtime, Carl talking over Thom, and Heidi getting squeezed out trying to leave space for "the guys."  I really liked the Thom/Heidi dynamic and don't think any third personality would be a good addition to the mix.  I also feel that if this is a move to gradually slide Thom out, it would be a serious blow to the show.  Carl seems to be an Ok guy and is probably worth hearing, but he doesn't even approach Thom in knowledge, interaction with guests and callers, and the ability to ground the present topics in sound knowledge of history.

I have made a serious effort to get up and listen to Thom and Heidi, even though I am a night person and hate mornings.  I will not do so for the eventual Carl and Heidi, and am less inclined to make the effort for the current Thom/Heidi/Carl incarnation.

Solid Schedule...
I've got to 'fess up here: I was one of the commenters who thought that 6 Hours of Thom in the Morning was too much of a good thing. I'm happy to say that I was wrong about that; I enjoy Thom's style in the main, and while I think he's way too polite to stupid people sometimes (like those "Objectivitsts" he has on for debate occasionally...he has a lot more patience for them than I ever will), on the substance level, i have no complaints (and considering that you did us the amazing service of not running that chowderhead Lion-O that AAR apparently decided to hire in Sam Seder's stead, we are fortunate listeners indeed).

In an earlier comment "sunsawed" wrote this:
I kind of like the local show better than the national.  I find myself compulsively wanting to know about what is going on in the Terwilliger Curves, even though I have no idea where they are.  And listening to local ads as opposed to the endlessly looped promos and PSAs of the national feed.

As a native Oregonian and a long-time Portland resident I must say I'm flattered...and amused. Who would have thought that someone two time zones east of here would worry about the Terwilliger Curves?

VERY sorry to see Sam Seder go...
Sam is easily the best that Air America has.  Randi has become too grating for me to take.  Her constant rants against "white males" and her complete fixation on their penises is just a non-stop irritating window into her psyche. Ed Schultz is a buffoon and the Young Turks are just vapid.  Thom is brilliant and a wonderful source of information, but ultimately just not very entertaining. Sam Seder was/is very entertaining but also right on top of the facts (and has great taste in bumper music too!).  I really miss Sam's show already.

KPOJ Morning Show????
I've heard Carl refer to the show as the "Morning Show" and now see it listed that way on the website.  I thought it was the "Thom Hartmann Show".  Carl is taking a more active role every day.  It really feels like Thom is being squeezed out.  If that's Thom's decision, I can accept with it.  It's it KPOJ's decision, I think it's a bad move.

Letter to Air America / Sam Seder

I really can't put into words how angry I still am, over Sam Seders dismissal from Air America. Unfortunately, it is indicative of an ownership that is appeasing entities other than its loyal listeners. People like me-- who have followed Sam from the beginning, but especially, as of late, when he really hit his stride. He is, with out a doubt, AA most gifted host. It took him a while to assemble all of his many talents into one potent radio persona, but when it coalesced, it made for "must listen to" radio. I suppose, it's not that ironic that you would take him down, just when he was approaching his zenith. It must be intimidating to have personalities on your payroll with such potent and perceptive minds. People, whose personal stature could never give ground to condescension, but who, in the end, was vulnerable to the power of the paycheck.

Sam deserved better, than to be kicked to the curb.

Seder Should Stay
Seder should stay. He was building an audience.  He has an appeal to younger listeners and Generation Xers.  That is not the typical talk radio audience.  His audience IS the talk radio audience 5-10 years from now.  No one can match his passion, intellect and humor.  Another radio syndicator should pick him up.  His streaming audiences were huge compared to his traditional ratings.  (More proof of appealing to a new demographic)

RE: New Lineup
I am pleased with your new line-up. Most of all, I am THRILLED that Thom Hartman is now in the 9-12 time slot with his national show! I could listen to him 6 hrs a day, but realize that is a tall order for him to uphold over time. Not sorry to see Sam go from that slot...his style of broadcasting was a real drain for me. Happy to have Rachel back and especially Mike Malloy. Would love to hear from Mark Maron more often..if not a show, maybe regular guest appearances on another show where I can look forward to hear his unique use of humour in confronting the neocons in their antics.

Why not run Ed and Randi LIVE?
So Portland listeners can CALL IN?

Portland has Thom all to themselves for three hours, they have three hours to call in.  So break up the six-hour MARATHON and let KPOJ listeners participate with Ed and Randi.  Plus, that puts Thom in both the Morning slot and in Drive Time.

Again, Kudos to putting Rachel among the LIVING.  She runs the tightest and most informative show in the business.  Plus. little great "News of the Weird" stories and humor you can't find anyplace else.

Having Rachel out of synch is actually GOOD.  It gives a second chance for STREAMERS like me to listen when I can't listen live.  (Or when the AAR or Rachel's Stream notoriously breaks down horribly, which is FAR to often.)

BTW, Kudos to the KPOJ web people who make the Stream far more reliable than any other.  I started listening when AAR pooped out on "Morning Sedition."  Then, to my AMAZEMENT, there was this alternative to SPRINGER 8-11 AM.  (I'm Central Time Zone.)  And I was hooked on Thom.  And wondered why his show didn't make the LAST shake-up of AAR.

I kind of like the local show better than the national.  I find myself compulsively wanting to know about what is going on in the Terwilliger Curves, even though I have no idea where they are.  And listening to local ads as opposed to the endlessly looped promos and PSAs of the national feed.

I'm a little concerned...

I don't know what to think re: Air America lately! Here's what I mean. All I care about is 620 KPOJ. The fact that KPOJ is in control of their own programming is perfect. I am a huge fan of Thom Hartmann (I read his stuff prior to him being on in Portland) and I am also a huge fan of Mike Malloy. In my opinion Hartmann and Malloy are do for the liberal movement in one week w/ their honest and hard-hitting styles versus a Seder or Franken type liberal who skirt the issues and "think too much" about what to say from one issue to another. Hartmann and Malloy say what needs to be said and they have no problem in expressing their anger openly.

Air America has been making really bad decisions in the last two years. It seems that if you open your mouth and speak the truth, even if it means being radical about it...then you're gone! Exactly what the neocons want. So I have been frustrated with AA's decisions.

I am not the greatest of writers so let me get to my point. Despite the fact that Portland gets to decide who and what we listen to regardless of what Air America is doing (Malloy for example). If Air America fails as a whole, then all of us on the Progressive side of the politcal system lose! No matter what happens nationally, it's clear that a Left-Wing radio station will not only survive in Portland, but thrive. The problem with that is that doesn't help our political ideology nationally. Portland will always be a safe haven for liberals, but it wont do us any good if the neocons succeed at destroying Left Wing AM Radio.

I hope Air America figures it out. It also doesn't help to be overly reactive and forget that a national radio network doesn't become successful overnight! It takes a good five-to-ten years for it to take root, esp. a left-wing AM radio network. These ups & downs are to be expected. I just they (Air America) learn from their mistakes. No more firing guys like Mike Malloy, Sam Seder, and Mike Maron (sp?). Of course we need guys and gals that people will listen to, but we cannot afford to shy away from angry pissed-off libs!

Okay, well sorry for the novella...I am happy that we are getting what we want here in Portland, but we can't be happy with a strong liberal AM radio network just in Portland. Air America must survive on a national level. We as Portlanders should do everything we can to help.

Support the companies that advertise on Air America nationally and try to write those companies an email explaining where you heard their commercial.

Replace Ed with Sam Seder

Ed Schultz belongs on a Portland "progressive" radio station like Joe LIE-berman belongs in the Democratic Party.

Sam Seder was great. He was months ahead of the rest of the country in his recognition of Ned Lamont as a viable candidate.
Informed, passionate, funny, with a huge fan base = kicked off the air.

New Line-Up
Your new line-up is pretty good except for that phony "liberal"
Ed Schultz.  I understand he took the money from the DLC.
I never liked Seder much.  Immature...a lefty version of Hannity.
The talent just wasn't there.  He would have been gone sooner or later.  The jewels-in-the crown are Thom Hartman, Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy.  Your programs make for timely listening here in the Eastern U.S.  Thanks for a great station.
Unfortunately, we have no Air America outlet here in Tampa, so I have to listen on the 'Net.

ratings
Anyone stop to think that Sam Seder's ratings weren't that good?  Just because there are several posters here who enjoyed Sam, doesn't mean that the rest of the listening public felt the same way.  KPOJ:  Randi, Ed & Thom should all be live.  And Mike Malloy IS a good addition.  Thanks.

Great lineup
Great variety and great selections. Live from 2am-Noon.

Thanks for bringing back Mike. I don't mind Elliott late, and I only wish Bender was sometime earlier.

But I'll take this.

I'll miss Sam. But I'm sure he and Maron will be back.

RANDI MAKES MY STOMACH HURT
Randi is too amped. We need  to put sam back on and loose 3 hrs of THOM I listen everyday but never after 3:00. Six straight hous of Thom is just poor judgement as in BAD IDEA.

Very Sad
I am very sad to hear that Sam Seder has been removed from the Air America line up. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and will miss his show. I find him to be one of the best of the lot. My favorites include Tom Hartman, Sam Seder and Ed Schultz in that order. I hope that Air America comes to it senses or that Sam can find a way to become syndicated so that you can pick up his show once again.

The best out of a bad situation
Like everyone else, I miss Sam and am heartbroken at AAR canceled his weekly show.  The Sunday show is little compensation as I love David Bender and who knows when you will stick in Sam's new show?

As for the rest of the lineup.  LOVE Thom, glad to have his National show 9-12.  Clearly bringing Carl in the morning show is a way to phase him in and leave Thom to just his National show.  That will be another horrible loss for KPOJ.  But a understandible move.

I love Big Eddy. and unlike some of the other listeners I listen to his show every day and turn off Randi.  I don't really like Rachel's show very much, but maybe it will grow on me and really, what else were you to do?!

So, all and all, great job with what you had to work with.  As you said, it keeps on evolving!

24/7 loyal listener, Michelle

new line up
Thank you for the new line up.  I will miss Sam Seder; he was doing a great job.  But thank you for bringing back Mike Malloy.  My husband and Mother listen all the time like I do and we enjoy Jon Elliott; getting to hear Rachel Maddow again;  putting Thom Hartman's national show on in the AM for us, and the rest of the group.  the Young turks are great and we really enjoy them in the mornings.

Too bad
I really enjoyed Sam Seder-  first Imus and now Sam.  Give us some variety or I might have to go back to listennig to music-- what a disgrace.  You should of treated Sam better.

Sam Seder
You have got to be kidding! I would also have to ask Air America what they are thinking??? I really enjoy Sam and hope KPOJ will try to get him back in the line-up even if he is no longer with Air America - I'm really disappointed in AA these days - they dropped Marc Maron and Mike Malloy and now Sam??  I don't want to see "progressive" radio go middle of the road or to the right like Ed Schultz so please find new hosts who really are progressives!  I'm so disappointed in this change.  I'm just glad that Thom is in Portland and I do enjoy Carl being on the program - just don't let the guys drown out Heidi - because I enjoy her, too.

Thanks.

BRING BACK SAM @#&* IT!!
I am so upset about the cancelation of The Sam Seder Show that I'm going to tear off my Air America bumper sticker! What is the real reason behind his dismissal? It's certainly not because he wasn't well liked or listened to, as most of these comments attest to. And I certainly don't understand how loud-mouth Ed Schultz can still be employed while the more  intellectually superior and entertaining Sam is not! Something is wrong with this picture! Someone ELSE please purchase Air America and bring Sam back!

I like it!
Yes, poor Sam is gone. He had some good stuff but I grew tired of Senator Katherine Harris and the sound of closet doors opening. Too much ego, not enough insight; with Jeanine sharing the studio it worked but solo it got old.

It will be great to hear Rachel earlier, and for months I was hoping Jon Elliott and David Bender would at last get some local weeknight air. Little did I know that Mike Malloy would return like a phoenix to cement the trifecta.

I'll be listening. I think that this weekday lineup will kick butt.

So I'm hoping that Sunday Sammy will be just part of the fleshing out of weekend air. Give RFK Jr. and Laura Flanders some live company on the weekends to skewer the "Face the Nation" biases.

I'm a lifer. Keep me happy.

well played
Just want to say that once again, given what you have to work with, you have made the best possible scheduling choices.
I, too, am heartbroken about Sam. He is a superlative communicator and his show had the perfect balance between wit, substance, and passion. His ongoing dialogue with Dewey belongs in some "best of the best" radio museum.
Also, I am soooooo happy to have Mike Malloy back in my life!
And, very glad you are passing on Lionel.
Finally, I'd like to give you some kudos on your promotional spots: brilliantly conceived and executed.

Is Air America now owned by Republicans?
What the--?!

I understand why we lost Al Franken. But at least we still had Sam. Now I just feel sick. So much for being a loyal listener.

This stinks, Air America. Are you TRYING to drive away loyal listeners? If so, it's working. Nice job. Way to go. It's good to see that you're starting out so wisely. What's next -- are you going to put Donald Rumsfeld in charge of programming? Or maybe you have already?

What a rip off.

room for everyone
Sorry to hear about Sam.  His interviews with erstwhile Senator-Elect Katharine Harris are priceless.  I hope they continue on his Sunday show and I hope he works his way back into the lineup.  I would also chime in with the comments about Stephanie Miller.  I heard her on the MIC in Madison last year and she's delightful.  I disagree strongly, however, with the criticism of Ed Schultz.  As a former midwesterner, I feel he empathizes with the concerns of blue-collar, middle America and opens dialogue with people in traditionally red states.  They are listening to him--a big assist for a 50-state strategy.  I understand he is the 5th-most listened to talk show host in the country.  Not bad.

New Lineup
SO sorry to see Sam go! PLEASE carry Sam's Sunday show, and if he ends up on another network I have faith you will put him back in the weekday lineup. Until then, the new lineup has lots of variety for every type of listener, and if there's someone we don't like much we can always listen to MUSIC for awhile! ED: Even though I'm not a big fan, I think he's an important voice for those who relate to him. RANDI: Still my favorite, and even though she rants and can be a bit much sometimes, I have heard her do very well with conservative listeners. I have learned alot from her, both in and out of politics. THOM: I learn alot from him too, and am proud to have him in Portland. MIKE: All I can say is THANK YOU for bringing him back! We need his voice!

morning line-up
I've been holding off writing and giving your morning changes a chance, but with the recent change for Sam Seder, and now Carl added to Thom Hartmann's show I must SPEAK! (Air America standouts are disappearing). It seems that you're planning to have Carl 6-9a and Thom 9-12. If that happens there are no great morning shows. Thom is a definite standout, amazing, but most can't listen to 9-12, (I can't). Please, please please move the Young Turks to weekends or middle of the night. They have limited news, poor timing (talk over each other all the time), and just don't have good radio voices. I turn off the radio  from 6-9a. Rachel Maddow would be FANTASTIC to replace them. She has news, news, news, which is a great balance to the call in talk shows.

Dump Schultz Keep Sam Sedar
Jesus Christ.  What is with Air America.  They seem to be in a perennial identity crisis and don't know what to do but fire the wrong people.  Ed Schultz should be the first one to go and Sam Sedar the last.  Thank goddess Mike Malloy is back, i never thought i would see the day but why now sedar?  He is razor sharp, not quite radical enough but 85% politically correct and much better than that right wing bore Al Franken.  Ed Schultz is a whiner, a buffoon, not very bright or well informed and heavily invested in various right wing agendas which he shamelessly spouts like his belief in the official story of 911 and other myths put out by the pentagon propaganda machine.  they can count on Ed Schultz as their man planted on the left.  "Big Eddie, the gun toten, meat eating, sports loving macho guy whose favorite icon is himself."  get rid of him, bring sedar back.

My two cents

I really like Tom Hartman...I learn something from him everyday, but I have to agree that 6 hours a day is too much..
Ed Schultz is a real pain..I have to turn off my radio from noon to three...he spends too much time talking about himself, Wendy or who he knows plus his rants send me right over the edge...I still love Randi, although sometimes she doesn't let her callers talk enough.. Rachael is wonderful...Glad to have Malloy back..he says everything I wish I could say....
Sorry that Sam was let go...maybe KPOJ should get some others on besides just air america selected few.
Your station is still the best...
AND please don't bring Stephanie Miller on....too silly a program..unless she is on during the night with the Turks!!!!

Sam and Ed

I love the idea that other have sugested of Sam coming to Portland do do the local show.  We still get Thom's nation show and we get Sam back.  Get to work on that KPOJ.

For the record.  Ed Schultz is not an Air America program so the "Why did AAR keep Ed over Sam" question is kinda silly.  Also he has always been very clear on the air that he is not affiliated with AAR.  Base on some comments below there seems be some confusion on that.  Apperently they missed his rant about Air America a while back.

Thom and Al are Great
I agree with Jeremy's statements that Thom is one of the best informed progressive people I know. I also agree with him that Al Franken was also awesome. Actually, Thom and Al were my favorites. They never shouted to their guests and gave them dignity even if their guests views didn't square with their own.

Hopefully Al will make the senate and hopefully Thom will consider politics at some point, because we NEED people like Al and Thom who are witty, well read, and most of all, civil to the neo-cons.

One attracts more honeybees with honey than with vinegar. If ALL of Air America's hosts were centered, calm and well informed.
As for Ed, I wish he would go. He seems to be ill-informed about a number of topics.

As for Randy, I love her, but I can only take her in small doses.

Progressives shouldn't ape what the Savages and Limbaughs do, but rather present a voice of reason and a real town hall like Thom Hartmann does and Al Franken once did.

The end of an Era
I was thinking the other night about the beginning of AAR and all the promise it had.  It wasn't going to be just political talk radio, it was going to bring perspectives to people that weren't being heard-even if they were not from a traditional pundits' mouth.  That concept was so exciting and new.  It was something that couldn't be offered by the right, and it was something that people who traditionally didn't think of themselves as "political" could get into.  Remember all the interviews with authors and musicians?  Remember learning about their views and how all aspects of society end up back at politics?  Through all the changes at AAR Sam was the best example of those concepts.  Sure, once the majority report ended and Sam got the morning slot his show changed into a more "traditional" political radio show.  He had more pundits and seemed to get a little more ranty, but the core of what he is about and what his views are was always there. I am glad I got to listen as he morphed from a radio novice and grew into a great broadcaster. That growth is greatly responsible for the good things that happened in the last election.  I really believe he helped to make a difference.

Now with the loss of Sam's weekday show, I feel like the last vestiges of the promise of AAR are gone.  ARR is a different animal now.  Sure, Randi is there still, but how long till they(unnecesarily)can her? I understand that AAR has gone through bankrupcy and changes had to be made because of that, but I am starting to believe Mike Malloy and (god forbid) Fat Eddy when they talk about the AAR management running the network into the ground. They are right.  They can't continually make line up changes and expect listeners to stay.  Firing Sam is just a stupid move on their part.(Especially since his ratings haven't even had a chance to become public yet.)   What is going to happen when they get the raitings after the replacement show starts in New York?  Once they get the ratings from that show and realize that Sam got better ratings will they fire the new guy and move Sam back?  If that cenario did happen I believe it would be too late for AAR to resurrect themselves.  I believe in the concept of liberal talk radio but i am starting to doubt AAR.  It's a good thing KPOJ can make their own decisions when it comes to the line up.  I just with they could bring Sam back.

Hooray! Thom National live in Portland
I am sooo glad to finally have Thom's national show live in Portland. If we had to loose Al Franken, Thom is the only host who could truly replace him.  Thom's wisdom, broad knowledge and obvious maturity are essential qualities that I wish more Air America hosts demonstrated.
I must disagree with many of your other postings.  I do NOT see Sam Seder as a great host.  While I agree that he is witty and sometimes well informed,  there is often a cruelty displayed in his attitudes toward poeple he opposes. If Peace is one of the important goals we seek, we must exemplify that peace.  I don't think Sam understands that yet.
However, I am sorry that Air America let him go.  Sam is way better than Ed Schultz, in my opinion, and would make that part of the day more tolerable.  Better yet, could you dump Ed, move one of the later programs into that slot, and replay Thom's national show in the evening?

Bring back Sam!  Bring back Sam!  What were they thinking to replace him with this centrist, goofy Lionel guy??

Fire Sam and keep Malloy?!?!?!?
I can not stand Mike Malloy. To the point that if it were not for Thom I'd not listen to the station at all for airing him.
I will not use the services of sponsors of the Mike Malloy show, that is for certain.
I'm sure most people love him. I am not one of them.
So thanks for Hartmann but any syndie that fires Sam Sedar for the likes of Malloy is not my cup of tea. Obviosly Malloy has worked well for AAR in the past, as we all read about the vast sea of money in which they float.
Add Malloy was bad enough, replacing Sam with Malloy is insulting.

Some good, some not so good
I have to wonder if adding Carl Wolfson to what WAS a simple intelligent show was some feeling on the part of management that Thom needed some "comic relief" - which he does NOT, by the way. Not that Carl isn't aware of current events, but it was just an unnecessary addition. We are lucky to have Thom here in Portland, we should be proud of his being here. Let's hope this "comic" lineup doesn't drive him away.  Franken was the worst and totally unfunny - I'm very glad he's gone.  Ed Schultz is great and simply to the point. No, I don't agree with everything he says, but I appreciate his level-headedness. Sometimes ranting just doesn't work.  Randi has now gotten to a place where she can't let anyone actually talk.  A caller gets in a few words and she's off yelling and pontificating.  She knows a LOT, but she should either just talk OR take calls, but not both.  For me, she's become unlistenable. Sam Seder being fired or whatever the official term is, was a bad move.  Sam pushed the envelope and always cracked me up as he exposed the madness of the Bush Crime Family.  By and large, still my favorite station.

Loyal Listener
As far as I'm concerned Thom Hartmann is the best host on Air America.  His knowledge about history and so many other areas is phenomenal.  I have no problem with 6 hours of him, although it might be nice to have it broken up, say have the national show following Randi at 6:00 our time.  I find Mike Malloy far too ascerbic for my taste, Sam Seder is not my favorite, but I'll listen to them because ultimately  they speak the truth.  Randi is loud, pushy, and too likely to cut off her callers, but I enjoy listening to her because, like Thom, she really knows what she is talking about most of the time.

I, for one, appreciate the decision to cancel Sam. Thank You, Thank You!!! I like the direction that Air America is going. If at all possible can you fill Saturday programing with shows that you don\'t air during the week? No repeats. I really love your station! Keep up the good work!!

Many thanks!
1.  Thanks for adding Carl to Thom and Heidi's show.  At first I wasn't sure how all three big personalities could fit in one studio, but it seems to be working.  I like Carl's passion and sense of humor.

2.  Thanks for giving us Thom's national show live.  It's nice to be able to interact with the homeboy in real time.

3.  Thanks for bringing back "Bush crime family Malloy!"

4.  Thank you for moving Rachel to a time that I can listen to her.  I've tried streaming her at work but inevitably I miss big chunks of her show.  It will be a pleasure to listen to her at home while I'm cooking dinner.

5.  Thank you for sparing us the insipid "Lionel" program.  Losing Sam during the week is tough enough!

Keep up the great work!

Please add Sam's weekend show. I really can't listen to Ed and Randi anymore. Thom is always great. I do think that AAR's new host Lionel deserves a chance to be heard, he's a very bright guy. Anyway, Sam Seder's show was smart and funny which equals great entertainment. I will miss Sam's show alot just as I miss Marc Maron - the funniest guy ever on radio. Someone please give Sam and Maron daily shows.

Six hours of Thom is way too much for me...sorry.

Losing Sam is unfortunate
Sam is one of the one's that I have most consistently liked.  Ed Schultz is not consistent enough, and I am not going to forget ever what he said during the time that Israel was destroying (once again) the infrastructure of Lebanon thru its bombing campaign--that was a-okay with Big Ed.   Randi reminds me of too many females in my family  with anger problems, and I don't end up enjoying listening to her for long.  Sam was smart, funny, and probing.  I enjoyed listening, wasn't downright depressed afterwards (like I usually am after a dose of Mike Malloy), and often found out a thing or two I didn't know or hadn't considered.  He was a good counter-balance to Thom's cerebrality.  Unfortunate (but then I still want J Garofalo back too!)

STEPHANIE MILLER
Would love to have Stephanie Miller on KPOJ.  Her time slot has been cut back to 2 hours on the "other" station, a golden opportunity for her to move to my favorite station, KPOJ.  Also will give us a break from Thom Hartmann.  6 hours is just TOO MUCH.

Political Activist AKA Liberal Lefty
I truly wish you would quit getting rid of your most entertraining hosts, that not only entertain, but provide us with crucial daily political information in a way that it is not excruciating to listen to.  Like Mark Maron, these two guys got me hooked on Air American because their funny and attract the younger, cooler, and the otherwise not willing to listen to a political radio station.  You need to humor us to keep us from crying.  We need Sam and Marc!!!  Please.

WHY SAM???
What the hell? Sam really found his voice after Jeanine left the show... he really grew on me and I'm stunned that KPOJ would do this... but even more stunned they would do it with so little notice (not giving anyone a chance to comment on it or rally behind him). At least when Morning Sedition left the air there was some time to get used to the idea.

If he continues with his show on a local NY station, I strongly suggest you consider broadcasting it locally here. He was making so many great adjustments to his show and getting so many of Al Franken's old regulars... NOW where will be hear regularly from Joe Conason????

This is just PATHETIC... I constantly defend Air America, but decisions like this are making it harder and harder.

ED's the Best
My fellow progressives:

While I may agree more with Sam or Mike Malloy than Big Eddie, I only listen to one show every single day and that is Ed Schultz.  He is the most professional of all the progressive talkers and has the best guests on.

I must say that it troubles me when my fellow progressives negatively judge someone because his positions are not in lockstep with theirs.  I disagree with Eddie more than anyone else on KPOJ but I think he is the best.  All the other progessive talkers reach only their fellow progressives.  Ed reaches the middle.  We are not the Repigs who march in lockstep to the dictates of the emperor (Cheney that is).

Regarding Sam, he was way too whiny for me and I got tired of him long ago.  The new lineup is better.

Could It Be?
With all the changes lately to AirAmerica could it be that the new owners are part of the right wing that are little by little eliminating our favorite people?  First Mike Malloy, even though he's back), Sam Seder, now only on Sunday.  The new host with Thom and Heidi seems to be muscling them out.  Maybe I'm not completley aware of where he fits in the scheme of things.  I hate being paraoid but these right wingers are very resourceful and play dirty.

New lineup is pretty good; thanks for Mike Malloy
First, thanks for bringing back Mike Malloy. Second, thanks for NOT adding Lionel (who?) to the station. Third, thanks for moving Rachel Maddow up to primetime.

Remember everybody: Sam Seder will still be on Sundays on Air America (KPOJ too?) And give Ed Schultz a break. He attracts moderate voters we need to win elections. He grates on my nerves sometimes too, but we need diversity.

Sam Seder
I am extremely dismayed at the loss of Sam Seder. His show has been my favorite. He's upbeat and his show makes me happy. He has so many wonderful guests and has come so far and matured so much over the course of show. I don't know what process is used for these decisions. Why would a successful show be taken off the air?????

Sigh

I have been a fan of Al Franken long before I had listened to Air America Radio and was very sad to see him go. Sam made that transition much better, in fact he quickly became my favorite show on Air America. This is crap. I feel robbed. I love Thom and all six hours of his show are so informative that I have to keep a pad of paper with me to write things down, but there are so many unique points of view out there. Well I guess there is one less now.

SAM?!
I agree with the majority of postings here.  Sam was the backbone of the Air America and KPOJ lineup.  He is funny, he is cutting, he is logical and well informed, and entertaining enough for a rightwinger to listen in to and not feel preached at (i.e. Randi and Ed...can't listen to Randi anymore..)  I am very disappointed in this change.

Thom is a great radio host, but we need Sam.  He is the reason I stay committed to the station.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for his return, and will nonetheless continue supporting Air America and KPOJ.

Good lineup!
I realize that KPOJ had nothing to do with Sam Seder leaving his weekday show; still, it's pretty sad it had to happen.

Despite the loss of Sam, I will admit this new schedule is a pretty good compromise; Rachel deserves to be on at a decent hour, and I'm glad Mike is on an hour earlier!

Good job on making the best of a bad situation! I imagine KPOJ must have been pretty upset at Air America for forcing them to change the schedule 1 week after they made another change to the schedule.

KPOJ morning show
3 cheers for Carl Wolfson...he's doing a super job as co-host with Heidi & Thom! great combo of wit & wisdom, as well as knowledge of local & state-wide issues.  a thoughful interviewer of guests as well.
thank you!

We Need Sam!!!
I was reading through some of the comments and saw the one about KPOJ asking Sam to do a show for them.  Are there other stations in the nation that KPOJ could band together with to ask Sam to do a daily show?

Maybe we need people like Ed for those on the right or in the middle, but as for me, I can listen to him for a little while and then it's enough.  I like Rachel, so maybe I will be able to catch more of her show, now.  I like Thom and Randi, too!!!!  I am open to hearing people I haven't heard before, but I enjoy Sam's show, very much.

Here is an email I sent to Air America and the Sam Seder show:

I am very saddened to hear of the cancellation of The Sam Seder Show.  Sam has grown greatly as a broadcaster.  I enjoy his enthusiasm and I learn a lot from his show.  He is a very good interviewer and I enjoy the guests he has on the show.  I have enjoyed the regulars that moved over from the Al Franken Show.

I know Sam is starting a Sunday show, but I would emphatically encourage you to return Sam to a daily show during the week.  He's fantastic!!!  There will be a big void on Air America, during the week, without Sam's daily show.

I can't convey how much I will miss Sam's show, but trust me, I will miss his show tremendously!!!

Like most of Life, Good & Bad.....
Hooray for Randi, Rachel, Mike as a lineup! Curses on Air America for screwing with Sam. Old cynic that I am, I anticipate this Lionel person being a New York-centric loud mouthed drive time jerk who happens to be a liberal. Not my cup of tea at all and I hope we here don't bother with him. I do hope we'll get Sam's Sunday show---he will do a great wrap on the week......Judith in Portland

I am heartbroken about Sam Seder. I am overjoyed that Mike Malloy is back - but i think we need them both.  Sam makes me laugh when i want to cry, and Mike brings me to tears with his passion. Please add my voice to the many that will miss Sam's daily show.

Love Thom, but 6 hours?
I love Thom Hartman, but 6 hours is TOO much of a good thing. BRING ON STEPHANIE MILLER FROM 6-9AM! That show is a riot and I'm listening to her on a competing station. I'll miss Sam Sedar though- always thought provoking, entertaining and a great radio voice!

Constant changes. Some form of Hari Kari???

I wish Air America would settle on a line up for more than a week at a time. I know that this is a period of transition for your radio network. But please, please try to solidify your lineup.
Personally I think Ed is fantastic and well balanced. Randi I can take but she tends to not let people finish their points. Even when they agree with her.
Thom and Heidi are great, and now Thom is a local boy for me.
Heidi I've listened too for years, long before Air America, and am glad she joined with Thom.
I will keep listening, realistically, what choice have I got?

Sam Seder

I can't believe you let Sam Go!! He is my morning anchor!  Why Air America supports loudmouth ED over Sam is
mind-boggling. 6 hours of Thomm is over doing it .Don't you think? I can not listen to any show the entire time except for Sam. Best of luck to him. Air America will regret losing him.He is VERY talented. he isn't a loud mouth blowhard like Ed. Iget so tired of his self promotion. Maybe Air Americaa will reconsider their decision.

Change is an improvement this time
Mike Malloy ROCKS
Too many hours of Thom H
Randi is ok
Ed is better
Ring of Fire is top notch

Isn't it great to be argueing for our favorites amoung a generally talented sane group?

LINE UP
I AM VERY MUCH A LIBERAL BUT TO WIN MORE PEOPLE OVER TO OUR VIEWS WE MUST NOT LOOSE OUR WAY.  PEOPLE LIKE ED SCHULTZ ARE THE ONES MIDDLE OF ROAD PEOPLE WILL LISTEN TO AND HE IS VERY LOYAL TO OUR VIEWS.  HIS "GUN TOTING" "MEAT EATING" RANTS ARE TO MAKE THE UNDECIDED MORE COMFORTABLE FOR A CHANGE OVER.  RANDI AND MIKE ARE GOOD LIBERALS BUT THEY TURN THE OPPOSITION OFF INSTEAD OF THEM LISTENING TO US.  ITS VOTES THAT WE NEED, NOT EGOTISTIC RANTING.  THOM IS GREAT, 6 HOURS IS TOO MUCH THOUGH, ALSO COULD YOU GET RID OF THE "SATELLITE SISTERS"?  WHAT IS THAT ABOUT ANYWAY ON THIS TYPE OF STATION?    A LOYAL LISTENER IN SALEM

Dude,what happen to Thom @night ?
I'm one of the unlucky ones that has to work at night and I would look foreward to lisening to Thom at night, because when he is on in the morning,is when I am sleeping and so I'm unable to tune in to his shows.So.you see. it really sucks to be me.He is the reason that I started lisening to air america in the first place. Because of Thom,I have started to care about what is happening to are goverment and country. Before,I thought, that I couldn't change the way things are in our country and I wouldn't even vote. But since I started lisening to Thom,I feel in powered and for the fisrt time since I was 18 years old,I voted. Can you Help me out and bring him back to nighs again?

SAM SEDER
I HOPE THAT WE WILL GET SAM'S SUNDAY SHOW.  MAYBE SAM COUD BE TALKED INTO DOING A NOON TO THREE SHOW FOR KPOJ. I BELIEVE THAT AIR AMERICA WILL ONE DAY (SOON) BE SORRY FOR THIS MOVE.

Compliments and criticism about the new lineup
I am really sorry to see Sam's show get cancelled. I know KPOJ has nothing to do with this (I think), but this is the best/only place I could find to voice that. His show is one of the few reasons I still listen to KPOJ (or Air America for that matter). On the other hand, I am very happy to see that Rachel Maddow will be on earlier in the day (as opposed to being relegated to the late night ghetto). I was not too enthused to hear Mike Malloy again. I agree with everything he says, but I find that the way that he expresses himself irritates me a lot. If I were at all on the fence, I think he would turn me into a raging conservative. The same can sometimes be said for Randi. I enjoy her show sometimes, and she does seem to do a lot of research. She doesn't always give credit where credit is due (for example, she seems to get a lot of stories from the Huffington Post, but doesn't mention that fact ever).

I will joing the Big Eddie bashing. I cannot stand to listen to his show any more. If I tune in for 5 minutes, he raises my blood pressure for the rest of the day. He's either talking about himself or taking some stance on an issue that is far from liberal or else he's talking about football. I don't see any difference between having him or Rush Limbaugh on my radio. I'm not sure why he's still on the air except that he seems to have his own group of ditto-heads, or maybe there's something else.

Anyway, I'm not sure where Air America is going with this recent cancellations. Sam Seder's show is one of the best things they have going, and I don't think adding a comedian to Thom Hartmann's local show is going to make up for his loss.

Welcome to the Daylight, Rachel!!!
Wow, that was abrupt!   Sam wasn't one of my Favs, but I sure didn't expect him to be dumped.

That being said, it's going to be a pleasure to hear Rachel regularly, and I think folks who've not yet had a chance to hear her will be pleased.

Weakest link

I don't think Sam Seder is the weakest link in the Air America lineup, and I don't think he should be let go.Also, I work graveyard and have missed hearing thom's nationwide show and now no more maddow either? Gonna be some long nights from now on......

We want Sam back
I have been a loyal KPOJ listener from the beginning, and I was shocked to hear that Air America is cancelling the Sam Ceder Show because it is one of their best shows.  Mike Maloy and Rachel Madow are not nearly as entertaining or informative as Sam.  Air America made a really big blunder on this one!  Loyal KPOJ listeners want Sam back!
Posted By: Steve Carlin - Friday, April 13th 2007 @ 2:00am
Ed is the ticket
Ed Schultz is a nice breath of Air America. As a Progressive I get real tired of listening to the ultra leftist on this channel. I need a good taste of sports, fishing and common sense, here and there. There is middle ground, folks.

Please, let's not eat our young...

Sorry to See Sam Go
I have always appreciated Sam's grasp of current events and his quick wit.  I have been a regular listener to his show.  He handles callers well, agree or disagree, and does not shout over them.  I hope the loss is temporary.

Will Miss Sam!
Hope you can get Sam back on the weekday line-up. Thanks for bringing Mike Malloy back...maybe Sam will follow him to Nova M Radio.  AAR is making a huge mistake by cutting Sam.

I've heard Lionel and I do NOT like him!  If people think Randi's voice is annoying, wait 'til they hear him.  KPOJ would be wise to pass on adding him to the line-up.

I vote to add Stephanie Miller.  I agree with other posts that more live broadcasts would be great.  I no longer listen to Ed Schultz since his meltdown, and listen to NPR at that time instead (Talk of the Nation and Fresh Air have more substance than Big Eddy).

Finally, PLEASE ditch the Satellite Sisters.

Bad idea
I hope the station has registered complaints with the mothership.  Ditching Seder is a lousy idea.  Please do not carry Lionel, this is Portland's PROGRESSIVE talk, and he dislikes being referred to as progressive or liberal.

Thanks for taking comments.

Please find a way to have Sam on air during the weekday. It will be great to be able to hear him during the week-end, though.

He is one of the most entertaining and knowledgable on the radio today.

What a Shame
I am saddened that Air America decided to take Sam off the air.  Sam was a breath of Fresh Air!!  He has a style and delivery that no one else has on your station.  I am sorry to see him go.  I remember just about a week ago when Sam was talking to Mark Marren.  Mark was stating how he was screwed by Air America.  Sam told Mark that he can no longer have him on the show.  Now a week later you dump Sam.  I would like to know why Sam's show was cancelled.

Bring Sam Back
I'm sorry to see Sam cut back to Sundays only.  I thought he did a great job.  I'm glad to see Mike back but only for late at night if I'm really angry otherwise for daytime he makes my blood pressure go up too much.  Thom is great, as was Al (who I miss), because you always learn something from them.  I hope Air America changes its mind and brings Sam back daily.
Posted By: anonymous - Friday, April 13th 2007 @ 12:15am
Rachel in Prime Time!
Hooray!
It is great that you moved Rachel Maddow to a prime time slot. She has always deserved better than the midnight slot.
I would still prefer to see both Randi and Rachel in live time slots, but now I am just getting greedy.
I understand why Randi is in Drive time and Rachel anytime other than the middle of the night is an improvement.

FINALLY...
I am a commuter listener (4-6:30 AM and 5-7:00 PM). Whatever it took to shake up the lineup so that Rachel Maddow is back to a listenable time is fine by me. I missed her intelligence and humor when she was relegated to the dead of night.

Now, if you would only dump those Young Turks! I've begun to listen to OPB (Horrors!) until Thom and Heidi (and Carl) come on. The Turks set my teeth on edge and that's not a way I want to start my day.

Posted By: Old Hippie Liberal - Friday, April 13th 2007 @ 12:13am
What the...?
After reading some of these comments I'm beginning to think that progressives can be just as stupid and self deluded as the far right nit-wits we rail against.  I'm not going to mention any names but some of you people seem extremely petty and narrow minded.  I'd like to take a number of people to task for their snide comments but this doesn't seem like the proper venue...

Regarding the KPOJ lineup:

Thom's national show live. (very, very good)
Losing Sam Seder. (very, very bad — and stupid on AAR's part)
The return of Mike Malloy. (good)
Adding Carl to the morning lineup. (undecided, but I'm leaning toward 'bad')

I enjoy Rachel Maddow but she's not half as entertaining as Sam has been.  Ed Schultz is not nearly as progressive as I'd like him to be but when he pisses me off I change the station until the next day.  He does have a broad perspective and it's not going to hurt any of us to have our eyes opened a bit.  On the other hand, I'm pretty sick of his sucking up to Hillary.  Randi Rhodes can be extremely difficult to listen to because she's so rude to her callers. (Is that a New York thing?)  On the plus side she's very intelligent and well informed.

I don't have a particular problem with any of your new line-up, but certainly feel that losing Sam Seder is a real step backward.  I would prefer he be given a mid-day time slot by reducing Ed Schultz'.  Sam is too creative a personality to discard.

Did you consider putting Mike on live? Unless they are changing Rachel's time, I don't think she's live in that new slot, so it would enable you to put Mike on live 6 to 9 and Rachel on 9 to 11! Just a thought. But honestly, I'm just glad to have Mike back at all because now I don't have to stream it and be chained to the computer!

Hmm, and looking at the last slot, 11 to 2, have you considered Jeff Farias? He's got a 3 hour show on Nova M like Mike, and I think he's pretty good.

Sam Seder
I am very saddened to hear that Air America is taking Sam Seder off the air.  Why?  I think he is very good and I listen to him when I am in the car at that time of the evening.  Why is it when someone I like gets "yanked"  Sam is informative and says it like it is which I appreciate.  Oh Brother!!!!!!    I think Air America is "goofig up" with this change.....
Good luck  Sam Seder......

So Glad Mike Is Back, But So Sad Sam Is Being Cut
Thank you, thank you, KPOJ for bringing Mike Malloy back to us. It was devastating to my husband and I when Air America gave him the boot.  We missed him terribly and it is fabulous to be able to hear him again.
I am so sad, however, to see Sam being cut back to a Sunday only show.  Unfortunately, it's one more example of Air America's creeping idiocy when it comes to their line-up.  It would be lovely if Sam hooked up with Novus and you could pick him up again.  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
I think you've done a great job with your evolving line-up (with the exception of Ed Schultz who has always bored me to tears). I really like that you've brought Rachel Maddow in for the 6-8pm slot.  She's fantastic.
Also, thank you, KPOJ for being a station that cares enough to listen to its listerners.  You are the best.  Long Live KPOJ!

line up needs tweaking still
Ed Shultz needs to go..uninformed and doesn't care to be informed.

Randy is a bore..couldn't care less to hear about her boozing it up. Too much of her tooting her own horn too.

Too much of Hartmann...history is just that, leave it there and get better informed before advocating some things, such as the Flat Tax which is another good for the wealthy and bad for everyone else.. Also has closed mind on 911. When we get now under control then we can immerse in history. He also talks over his callers and his guests.

Hooray that Mike is back. He truly cares and calls it as he sees it.

How about better reception at night..I can get Calif, AZ, Nevada, Washington & even Alaska but Air America just fades away.

Sad about Sam.......
I was shocked to hear of the cancellation of Sam Seder's show. He is one of my favorites (started listening to Sam on the Majority Report)! I like him, the co-hosts, the humor and information his show brings to radio.
Many of his guests are folks "we listeners" became familiar with from The Al Franken show. I do hope this decision will be reconsidered.

Respectfully,

I'm done with Air America and KPOJ
I hate this. Sam Cedar is the best progressive radio host in America. He is intelligent, quick on his feet, is incredibly knowledgable about the topics and isn't afraid to take on Conservatives (even inviting them on his show). So why would AAR axe him?

But don't pat yourselves on the back too quickly, KPOJ. You brought in this Carl guy to squeeze out Thom Hartmann. Sure he's still on the air in the morning, but he's slowly being replaced by Carl who is now commandeering airtime.

Is this about money? Is this about ratings? Progressive radio needs good voices, and you're slowly tossing them out the door. We're left with Ed Schultz? Yeah, there's a voice we need. The Young Turks? Do we really need a "morning show"?

I'm moving on back to NPR. At least they can recognize good people when they have them in their hands.

What was AA thinking dropping Sam?
Next to Randi, I listen and enjoy Sam Seder with the most regularity of all the AA personalities. I enjoy Thom Hartmann but not enough to listen to him for that many hours. Sam is young, very smart and so entertaining while still delivering important information to his listeners. I've already dropped Ed Schultz and now I'll not be listening to the 9-12 PM at KPOJ. What in the hell is AA thinking dropping this terrific young man from the air waves? Everyone I know is disappointed at this recent change but none more then me.

Rachel Maddow! She's the best thing on Air America. Incredibly intelligent show and funny with Kent Jones! He's great too...

Change is good, but....
I'm really sorry to hear Sam is gone. Is he taking over for Imus??? Change is good, but sometimes continual change is a way to lose ones way. Why not just put Tom in the 6am-9am slot, put Sam back in during the 9am-noon slot, Randi in the noon-3pm slot, Ed in the 3pm-6pm slot, and Rachael in the 6pm-9pm slot as a better flow.
Overall, I think the progressive movement is benefitting from Air America, but I think we might serve it better with less beating up the "others" and concentrate on the problems AND solutions in government. Sometimes it's a bit over the top (and overkill) with the continual knocking on the right.

Missing Sam Seder
I was very sorry to see that Sam Seder was cancelled by Air America.  Although I was initially turned off my his stridency, he grew on me, especially as he started adding better guests.  I have always counted on AA to give me information, which the Al Franken show did very well with his excellent guests, and I was happy that some of those guests started appearing on the Seder show as well.  I also liked occasional doses of humor, which I miss with Hartman.
Don't get me wrong, I love having the national Thom Hartman show on now -- I just want them both!
I was distressed that Maloy is returning, though.  I agree with the person below that equates him with Coulter.  He's just gratingly hateful.
We need quality, not just the flip side of right wing talk radio.

Thom has class
Thom is a classy guy - not to mention brilliant!  I could listen to him all day. I wish Carl would talk less and Thom would talk more on the morning show.  Thom is the wisest of them all.
I love him back to back with the national show. 6 hours is great!

What about the Windbag?

Schultz should be the one to go! He doesn't belong on Air America. He is a waste of air time and gives liberals a bad name.  I think he is a mysogynist  - he is often extra rude to women. When he was on Larry King with Randi Rhodes he had nothing to say to support her or to take a stand against the war.

Sam Seder
I was sorry to hear about Sam Seder being cancelled but am
glad to know that Thom Hartman will be on from 9-12 noon.

That's usually when I am in my car and can enjoy him.

Thanks for the update.

Why the bashing of Ed?
I don't understand the bashing of Ed Schultz. Whether you
agree with his occasional digressions into sports or not, he
only has by far the largest audience of any Politcal talk show
that is not far right of center. He gets the top Democratic
politicians on his program and I only wish we could get his
program (and the Randi Rhodes program) live. I could live
with Tom Hartman's national program delayed but I'm
really enthusiastic about getting Rachel Maddow in the
evenings.

Ed Schultz
While some of you may not like Big Ed or some of his views I have had the pleasure of meeting up with him and his wonderful wife Wendy here in Portland at the Crystal Ballroom in March, 2006.  They were doing a benefit show to feed Portland's hungry and homeless.  While he was here I mentioned to him about the lack of volunteers at the Portland VA Hospital and how the thinly manned staff was overworked and needed help.  Well Big Ed grabbed the ball and went running with it, so to speak.  He discussed our meeting on his national radio show the next day while down in Eugene.  I have never met a man more compassionate and caring about our veterans and active duty military personnel than Ed Schultz.  He still continues to talk about the poorly manned staffing situation in the VA Hospital System in light of the info that has come out about Walter Reed and a few other VA hospitals.

I thought Sam was a good replacement for Al. He was enjoyable with his own humorous perspective on the issues. I'd really like to see him back.

New Lineup -- Get Sam to move to Portland!
Dear KPOJ management:

THANK YOU for NOT airing Lionel's show.  The samples I've downloaded over the past week off his own site make him sound like he'd be WAAY too close to Ed Schultz (a show that I do NOT listen to mostly because he's too uninformed on many facts and current events, secondarily, he's too moderate/right for me to tolerate for too long BUT (!!) he serves a purpose in getting would-be Republicans to hear a voice on the "left" (??) that's not TOO extreme for their fragile minds).  Anyhow, forgive the sidetrack & THANK YOU again for NOT airing Lionel's show.

The rest of the lineup looks REALLY good considering the bare bones that AAR corporate has given you to work with.  And THANK YOU for getting Mike Malloy back on locally!  Nice work KPOJ mgmt!

And I REALLY wish KPOJ could get Sam Seder out to Portland to do a show locally that covered national issues (similar to how Thom started out here locally after being in Vermont at the I.E. Radio Network for a while).  SAM SEDER WAS THE BEST AAR HAD!!! I'm SO bummed he's only going to be broadcasting for a paltry 3 hours a week!  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE at the VERY least make sure his Sunday show is carried here on KPOJ!!!!!!!  PLEASE!

Again, while I'm horribly disappointed in AAR corporate for firing Sam Seder, I appreciate what KPOJ is doing with what you have to work with.  NICELY DONE.

Cheers

Brilliant Programming on KPOJ

Geez, every decision the person in charge of programming for KPOJ has made over its short three year history has been brilliant... in spite of all the dumb ones Air America has made.

Air America should take a page out of KPOJ's recipe book.

I am sorry to hear about Sam Seder. He was good evening fare.

Long live Thom Hartmann, Heidi Tauber, Carl Wolfson and KPOJ!

Posted By: sarah - Thursday, April 12th 2007 @ 8:55pm
Live radio is better.
It really sucks losing Sam, but why not switch Ed & Randi's time slots, so we get Randi live, and take Malloy live at 6 and play Maddow's show from 9 to 11?  I suspect carrying so many of these shows on delay is driving many listeners like myself to XM or streaming online from another outlet....
Posted By: D - Thursday, April 12th 2007 @ 8:50pm
Sam is the Best!
Will we get Sam on the weekends?

This was a really bad choice by AAR. Sam was their best host. No disrespect to anyone else, but Sam was great. I'm going to miss his program badly.

I'm glad that we will get Rachel at a rational time. Jon Elliott is good too. Nice to have Malloy back!! But losing Sam really hurts.

Sam on Sundays
Air America is MOVING Sam's show to Sundays.  PLEASE CARRY HIS SHOW!

As for those who dislike Ed Shulz, I dislike him too--rather strongly, in fact.  However, truth be told, KPOJ is not likely to ever drop his show, no matter how ill informed or criminally non-entertaining he may be.  Proof?  How about that the local guy who won that Jones Radio contest was from Beaverton--and that contest was run in conjunction with someone from KPOJ.  Ed's not getting dropped.

next step
Next step is to dump Mike Malloy.  I really do not enjoy listening to him.  Tom Hartmann, Eddie Schultz and Rachel Maddow are great. I look forward to listening to Jon Elliott.

In the spirit of "us not sounding like "them"
Did Dusty just spew out soundbites and hope they would stick?
In the liberal spirit of fairness, could you please supply one example of each of the points you made about Ed Schultz?

1.) "lying about the resumes of his guests"
      When?   Who?
2.)" pandering to AIPAC"
       How?
3.) "thumping nonsensical opinion as fact"
       When?  What about?
4.)  "blurring his connection to Air America Radio"
        say what?

Wow, Dusty....you sound like the posterchild for "liberal eletist".
I'm surprised you're not a rightie with that "insulting my intelligence" opinion of yourself.
And people think Ed is an egoist........

Posted By: lifelong liberal - Thursday, April 12th 2007 @ 5:02pm
Ed's got cred. Randi's just crud.
I could go along with someone calling Ed Schultz on his self-promotion, but to laud Randi Rhodes at the same time is just hypocritical. Randi is one of the biggest attention whores on the radio and her callers are primarily sycophants bowing down at the trough of Rhodes. As for Mike Malloy, do we really need our own Mann Coulter?

The Ed Schultz Show is an example of the gray area between right wing lies and the quality of the Thom Hartmann Show. Ed is not above lying about the resumés of his guests, pandering to AIPAC or thumping some nonsensical opinion as fact and always blurring his connection to Air America Radio.

Your noon to 3 PM period is my most productive, however, as you are replaced by classical music instead of insulting my intelligence with the edhead show.

Give Lionel a chance
I heard Lionel a few months ago for the first time, and my first thought was, "Why doesn't Air America have this guy?"

Is KPOJ carrying him 6-9pm?

I think Ed Scultz is great for bringing middle of the roaders over to our side, but do we need that in Portland?  We probably do, but how any middle of the roaders listen to KPOJ anyway?

I feel bad for Sam - he came a long way in the last few years - but I'm not going bear any grudges.  It's more important that progressive talk thrive & survive, so I'm wishing AA 2.0 all the best.  And you too KPOJ!!!
Posted By: anonymous - Thursday, April 12th 2007 @ 12:34am
Get rid of Ed
I'm tired of Ed Scultz's self-promotion and focus on sports and sensational stories.  Please get rid of him.  I"m delighted to see six hours of Thom Hartmann, including his fine nationwide show.
Posted By: D Jackson - Wednesday, April 11th 2007 @ 7:16pm
Get rid of Ed
Ed Schultz is a big loud-mouthed blowhard.  I turn to a different radio station when he is on.  He's a disgrace to any station that claims to be progressive because he is not.

Randi Rhodes is one of the main reasons I still listen to Air American and KPOJ.  It's too bad that some people have a problem with strong women who happen to have an opinion.

I'm very sorry to hear that time slots for Sam Seder and Rachel Maddow have been changed.  Rachel is one of the best voices on the air.  Next to Randi, Rachel is my favorite.  I've really enjoyed listening to Sam Seder since Al left.  I'll miss him.

Though I like Thom Hartmann quite a bit, I have to agree that 6 hours is too much of one person.

People would grow to like the Young Turks if they were on at a decent time.  Love them.

GET RID OF THE REDHEAD - BRING RACHEL MADDOW BACK TO DAYTIME.  Thanks.

I like Thom, more the national show than the local show, but six hours is too many, regardless.  I've started listening to Stephanie Miller instead (but only two hours currently in this market), she is hilarious and would be a great addition to your lineup.  Love the Young Turks, too, and enjoy Ring of Fire and David Bender on the weekend and I hope you plan to run Sam's show.

I love Thom but I agree with others who say that 6 hours might be too much.
Thom, Heidi and Carl is a mouthful. Look to see just Heidi and Carl soon. Carl appears to be talented and informed but I don't tune in during my drive to hear "bits"(monkey meat??), although I do enjoy Thom's style of humor. He and Heidi are perfect together.

ED SCHULTZ KEEPS IT REAL
Wow....I guess I'm not "liberal" enough. Last time I looked up the word,it was defined as "open minded".
Ed Schultz exposes us to middle America. This seems to be scary territory for the liberals around here I love hearing what unscreened Americans have to say....I find it educational! When all I hear is like-minded lefties preaching to the choir, I think that we should question our "open mindedness".
Anyone who has listened to Ed Schultz for any length of time knows his passion for civil rights, workers rights, women's rights etc. If he's not left enough for you because he hunts and fishes---get over it! Middle America does that!!!
I still can't forgive lefties like Thom Hartman who voted for Ralph Nader in 2000. The cost of those "educated" liberal votes was larger than life!
Liberals don't just reside on the west and east coasts.....some of them broadcast out of Fargo North Dakota.
ED SCHULTZ KEEPS IT REAL!

My two cents
Just my two cents, but I want Sam Seder back (just in case AAR is listening) in the line up, on a DAILY BASIS, in place of Ed Schultz, and I'm begging you, please put someone else on in place of the Satellite Sisters.  It is one of the most boring shows I have ever heard.  I dread Saturday mornings.

And, as much as I love Thom, 6 consecutive hours is a bit much, don't you think?

Couldn't we get Randi LIVE instead of Ed?
Posted By: Terre - Wednesday, April 11th 2007 @ 3:21pm
New Line-up
What is going on?  Rachel Madow is one of the best Progressives there is and what do we get at prime time...........Randi Rhodes,  the scream, yelling, name calling bad-talker!  I am so disgusted.  Thom is great and I can listen for a short time to Ed but I guess my biggest thing is that we have to start getting some progressives who aren't yelling and name-calling. Did anything ever happen with Tom Oliphant taking over a show for Al Franken.  That honest, quiet, history based analysis is what you need to get going.
Posted By: Margy - Wednesday, April 11th 2007 @ 3:19pm
lose Ed
I agree Rhandi is really hard to listed to!  I am grateful everyday for Thom Hartmann, however I had arranged my day around Sam in the morning.  So this is sad for me. He is funny and refreshing. Dinner time I am not listening to the radio...so this new arrangement is no good for my day....I would prefer if you switched Sam with Thom's nationwide show. I know he is probably live for us.
Ed Schultz appealls to some-- not me...the big red head thing gets really old...he could  be dropped.
Posted By: anonymous - Wednesday, April 11th 2007 @ 12:23pm
6 hours of Thom is 3 hours too many...
I was a faithful listener to Al Franken and I was so sad to see him go, but I thought Sam did a really good job of keeping the right tone for the time slot and I was a regular listener.

I also am a big fan of Thom Hartman and rarely miss his morning local show.

But, really, 6 hours of Thom is just too much.  I have to find something else during his second show.

I also agree with previous posters who want more live broadcasting.

new line up
I'm very sorry to hear the AirAmerica decided to move Sam Seder to once a week only.  I seriously hope that KPOJ will run him live on Sunday afternoons, perhaps followed by a repeat of the Saturday Ring of Fire (another fine show).  I haven't heard what KPOJ plans for the new line up, but I hope it won't include "Lionel's" local New York show.  Here's my suggestion:

6-9-Tom local
9-12 Ed Schultz (if this is his live time)
12-3 - Randi Rhodes (if this is her live time)
3-6 - Tom Nationwide
6-8 - Rachel Maddow
8-9 - David Bender
9-12 - Mike Malloy

wha?
Hello:
The information that I have gathered here does not compute.  I am a liberal.  Am I missing something here?  Ed Schultz is a loudmouth Rush Limbaugh impersonator, gun toting and all.  Also, that Thom Hartman owns assault rifles and other automatic weapons.  Why are these follows being put up to positions of preeminence on liberal talk radio?

Lionel?
I'm confused about Lionel replacing Sam Cedar. I didn't care
for six hours of Sam but don't know why he is being replaced
by this Lionel. How about putting Thom Hartman's program
at the 6-9 PM time slot and put something else in the
9-12 spot
Posted By: Norm - Wednesday, April 11th 2007 @ 3:03am
Randi live and maybe even Stephanie Miller....
How about running Randi's show live?  Isn't that what makes talk radio work, running a show where you could actually call in and talk?  And what about adding Stephanie Miller in the mornings?

I used to listen to 620 all of the time, but have started listening to a couple other stations in town because all of their daytime programming is live.

I know that everything can't be live, but it would be so very cool to have Randi live....think about it, please!!!!!    :-)

lineup
I would much rather you give Rhandi's spot to Sam and put her someplace else, possibly in Sams cuurent time. or even in the middle of the night or on a sunday. Sam is by far the more informative and entertaining host. Rhandi constantly rambles on and on and argues with her own callers/listeners just to argue. Even if a caller has the same opinion but a different idea for a solution to an issue she totaly attacks them just because they dont share her exact beliefs. I thought Air America was trying to bring out dialogue and debate. Not with Rhandi. She also makes cheap personel comments about people like with a persons weight or other physical traits just lke an imature kid would. I find myself turning the station when she gets beligerant like that.
Also dont get rid of Ed Schultz. I know some people dont like him but I think he brings many ideas to the table that are from a different point of veiw that should be taken into consideration. I would much rather hear a few different ideas from different hosts than the same lines repeated over and over like FOX does.Yes he talks about sports or other topics I dont care much for but he always gets back to the issues and best of all he doesnt screen callers.

I'll miss SAM!
I leave my office right before 6:00 to listen to Sam on my drive home.  I like his sense of humor and his ability to laugh at himself.  He doesn't interrupt his guests like other hosts (i.e. Randi).  One day of Sam is not enough.

Since it seems like you are easing Thom out of the morning drive spot, can't you bring in Sam to do the local show?  Perhaps you can syndicate for other stations to make it work.

Heaven (or nearly)!
Assuming Thom is not gradually phasing out of the 6-9 AM slot, the current lineup is about as close to my dream lineup as you are likely to get.  I listen mainly 9 PM to noon, and there they are!  Glorious.  Thom in the showcase spot!  Mike back!  Glorious.

Ed
I have to say reading these posts makes me feel like a minority- but I know I am not. I love Ed Schultz- it is just upsetting that I can only hear him on weekends and in the summer time- when I am off. I also can't stand Rhandi Rhodes- she is just gross.  When my friends visit from red states they get excited to listen - only to be completely turned off by her- you need someone better on in that drive time- like Ed. I rarely listen becasue when I do it seems it is Rhandi and she just is such a know it all and she doesn't even let callers talk unless they agree with her- it's horrid.

keep Sam
I think it is a big loss/mistake to drop Sam Sader's show. He is interesting, entertaining, and funny--an unbeatable combination. I would far prefer to lose Ed, though I don't dislike him. Sam's show is far more substantial. Please re-think this. Thank you.

The departure of Sam Seder could be the death knell of Air America...
What does Air America 2.0 mean?

Software crashes? Overheating? Better graphics? (On the radio?!)

No! You drop one of your most popular hosts.

Sam Seder will be missed, immensely.

He is by far the best host AAR has ever had. I cannot justify renewing my subscription to AAR premium without a daily dose of Sam Seder. Hundreds of my friends on the internet feel the same way. I'm certain there will be at least an unofficial boycott of the new Lionel (who?) show by most of the listeners of Sam's show. We cannot help but feel the cutbacks to Sam Seder's schedule will result in huge losses to Air America, both in respect and profits. Our local affiliate KPOJ, recently played Sam's show regularly twice a day! You folks really need to think this move through. Seder was the only reason AAR was still here for you to rescue. Ask Mike Malloy. There are other venues for Sam's show to be heard. These kind of actions only result in the trash talking of Air America by its competitors and former employees, usually on its own airwaves! (Ed Shultz is a regular, Janeane Garofalo and Marc Maron have chimed in many times, too.)
Sam Seder's professionalism on the subject only proves what an enormous loss to the liberal radio world Sam's move will be.

"Sam Seder is the future of Air America" -(future) Senator Al Franken

(No one thought Franken was gonna 'be somebody' during his first couple years at SNL, either, remember?)

-Harold Jennings

Hillsboro, Oregon

P.S: I hope Mark Green was man enough to at least invite Sam to his 3rd Anniversary Party to give him the axe in person.

Thanks for airing Thom's National show LIVE! Now...
Now could you please give us Randi Rhodes live from noon to 3?  Pretty please?  Portland deserves to hear more national programs live.   Ed Schultz could fill a slot from 3-6, or anywhere since we won't be hearing him live.

Changes
I want to add my response to the changes made to "Air America 2.0", the new Air America line-up. I object to Sam Seder being marginalized to Sunday. Sam was able to pick up much of the intelligence of the Al Franken show over a very short time - and with better humor bits.
Furthermore, I am dubious of any New York talent (Lionel?) as playing out here in the "hinterlands" where the majority live of Americans live - and the political and economic strength of America lies. Look at the strength on KPOJ - of one of Air America's great success stories - of Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz and, arguably, Al Franken and Mike Malloy, all of whom derive from outside of either New York or LaLaWood. Here, both major cities are viewed with suspicion, derision and self-appointed arrogance.
I agree with those who feel that 6 hours of Thom (especially Thom solo) is far too much. I will be listening to less of him as a result.

Over the past few months, I have become less than enthusiastic about Ed Schultz, for his bashing of Air America and other liberal talkers, and Randi for her vitriolic rantings (and also, do we need to hear to hear about her surgeries?).

After one show I am no longer listening to Mike Malloy, also for his over the top vitriolism and his obsessive rants against Air America. Mike: get over it or get some "help".

Unfortunately, my second favorite show, the Rachel Maddox Show, is on too late at night to stay up for.

For those who object to such a long rant, sorry folks!

Perfect line up!
Six hours of Thom is great! He's the most articulate and informed of all of the AAR line up. Ed Schultz takes second place and offers a good balance with his "straight talk from the heartland"

Randi Rhodes is like finger nails across a chalk board.
And please...get rid of the Satellite Sisters. Just empty talk.

I agree with the posts asking for more live airings.  Is cost a factor in having live shows?  If Thom's slot for 9am to 12pm was removed and moved everyone up a slot I think you would have more listeners.  My favs are Ed, Randi, Sam and Mike.  The 9pm to 12am slot could be a live local show...  Anyhow, I think you guys are on the right track for hosts.  Also, thanks for bringing Mike back.

NEW LINEUP

I very much appreciate your bringing Mike Malloy back.  It would appear that I echo the sentiments of many others who have responded - too much Thom!  I love listening to Thom and Heidi in the morning; though, do we really need three hosts in this slot now?  Heidi got lost in the shuffle this morning, and I missed hearing her comments as the two men almost completely took over the show - is this what we have to look forward to? I would hope not!  And then, another three hours of Thom?  I don't want to listen to anybody for six hours straight - bad idea. Bring back Sam Seder!

Thank you so much for bringing Mike Malloy back to Portland.  I have missed him terribly.  Your line up is almost perfect with the exception of Ed Shultz, whom I could live without, though I think he fills an important niche.  It's a small price to pay for 6 hours of Thom, Randi (wish she would go back to 4 hours), Sam and Mike.  Fantastic!

Posted By: anonymous - Monday, April 9th 2007 @ 6:54pm
Thanks KPOJ !
Very glad to hear that Malloy is returning. Streaming him via the Seattle station was getting old !  Very sorry to hear that Sam Sedar's show is being cancelled - Sam has become a top nothch talker right before our ears - now he's gone for Lionel ?  Only one real complaint: 6 hours of Hartman is just over the top. He's great, but your going to burn people out on him for no reason at all !  Does any other national voice get broadcast 6 straight hours anywhere ?

Mike Malloy is finally back!

The Mike Malloy Show is the best! Thank you for bringing him back.
Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy and Sam Sedar each are tops in presenting an entertaining, informative show.

I guess Ed Schultz show is good for people who think Randi Rhodes is a radical left-winger.  (?)

I can't stand Schultz, and I'm a white, 53-year old oldguy.
Any replacement for Ed Schultz and The Young Turks would be an improvement.
I prefer a Mike Malloy re-broadcast instead of The Young Turks in the 3-6 am slot.

I like all the new changes
I think everyone is great.  The new line up is wonderful.  There are varying topics on every show.  One topic that I would like everyone to consistently reinterate across all the programs is the black boxes.  What is being done about the voting boxes?  I do not hear any mention of them at all.  I am worried that we are going to forget about them until the elections.  By then it will be too late to do anything.  This is what happened last time.  Please don't wait until it's too late.

Thanks!

I just wanted to let you know that I have turned my dial back to you today. I can't stand Sam Seder and haven't listened to kpoj since Al left because it's easier to just leave my radio tuned. I know several folks here have said 6 hours of Thom is too much but I really think his National show has a very different tone and feel than his local show does.
Thanks again!

bring Sam back!
Please bring Sam back to his original schedule!  He is what KPOJ means to me and to my family and friends that listen.  We listen for SAM.  He allows people to talk, he is funny and he knows what is going on.  I am surprised that you would feature Thom Hartman for 6 hours-that is way too much Thom.  He used to be good but now he is so full of himself and talks all around, up and down and over something but Sam gets to the point.  I will be listening a lot less to KPOJ with this line up.  Sam can count on me every night though!

Sam Seder show
The Sam Seder show has evolved into one of the best in the AAR lineup.  So what to the do, cancel it and give Sam a slot on Sunday.  Stupid move by AAR in my opinion.  The Seder show gave me a reason to tune in (and tolerate the many absolutely horrible advertisements KPOJ runs, from 'sleep country' to 'mattress world' to 'hays varnard' or whatever his name is to the absolutely hideous 'real words from real people' ad and I could go on).  I don't like or listen to Ed Schultz or Randi Rhodes anymore.  Randi has often rude, shrill and abrasive (even to the friendly callers) and ther are many reasons I don't listen to Schultz) and I find the ads so unappealing (not just the frequency but the content of them) that they drive me away from other shows.  I listen some to Thom Hartmann but six hours in the morning is too much.  I would listen at least some to Rachel Maddow if her show were broadcast at a time I could listen.  The Sam Seder show is the only one that I would make a point to listen to each day (which flipping the station at the commercials).  His show is entertaining (more so than Hartmann) and informative.  He doesn't have the shrill quality of Randi Rhodes so it's much more pleasant to listen to his interaction with callers.  I don't understand the appeal of Randi Rhodes or Ed Schultz but they seem to occupy sacred/protected space in the line up.  With Seder leaving the week day lineup I don't have much of a reason to tune in on week days.  The return of Malloy is good but I can ususlly only take him in small doses (his rants get to be too much anger and negativity some times and in the past one didn't listen to Malloy to learn new things....the Malloy show seemed like a forum for his callers and Malloy to vent).  If Seder goes to the Nova M network which you know is the home of the Mike Malloy show I hope you will consider picking it up.  Politically Direct is pretty good too but broadcast on the weekends.  I hope you will consider moving it to week days to fill the Sam Seder Show void, at least until Mr. Seder lands a new job with a network who will treat him right.  A lot of listeners are getting the impression that the management at AAR doesn't know what it's doing (from what I read on the blogs).

Thanks for reading.

Peace,
Kevin

Have I mentioned how much I hate these people?
I'm really REALLY glad to see Mike Malloy back on the air!!  Especially after getting the shaft from the previous AAR management.  I also listen to Sam Seder and Randi Rhodes religiously every day.  I agree with others that 6 hours of Thom Hartmann is a lot, but at least Sam Seder isn't being played twice a day now.  I will add that I don't really care for Ed Shultz--I tried, but it's like listening to Foghorn Leghorn (I swear he sounds just like him) and his shtick gets old.

what happened to Sam Seder at 9am?
Good grief, what happened to Sam Seder at 9am? I know you repeated the broadcast from 6-9pm, but I mostly listened during theday. Sam Seder has interviews! He keeps up on the news! He occasionally shuts up and listens. Boy, am I disappointed.

Sincerely,

Please get rid of Ed Schultz
I'm so glad that Thom Hartmann is back on Portland local radio.

I'd suggest putting Sam Seder in Ed Schultz's slot.  Sam is a great host -- funny, trenchant, astute, and gracious.

Ed Schultz is a bag man for the right wing, though he continually protests otherwise.  He's a disgrace to progressive radio.  He may be a "progressive" conservative, but he's no progressive.  And his values are most definitely conservative.  He's also a closet Zionist.

Please remove Ed Schultz from KPOJ's fine liberal/progressive lineup ... or put him on in the middle of the night.
Posted By: Sarah - Monday, April 9th 2007 @ 1:49pm
6 hours of Thom...YES!
The topics covered are different.  The local show we don't get the bigger interviews, but most importantly, I can't divert enough attention in the early am to get all of the local show.

I'm ecstatic about getting the national show now!

Welcome back Malloy!!

Thanks
Many thanks for the time and effort you have put into the new lineup.  You are showing respect for your listeners by not changing things more than necessary.

6 hours of Thom seems like a temporary thing, but he seems like a natural choice for the 9-12 slot, though Sam has the real "no boring zone".

Man, Ed must have wonderful ratings to get away with the crap he pulls.  He is not a progressive.  Glad to see so many posters here agree.

Looking forward to the next round of surprises, hoping it will mean a better time slot for Rachel, David Bender and Sam.

The new line up!
I have listened to KPOJ since day one.  Love it.  It has kept me sane, with all of the madness out there.  First I want to say I love Thom, but six hours is to much.  We have some other talent on Air America and I enjoy hearing them and their prospective.  So for the first time I will turn the dial.  I also don't listen to Ed, I stream Randi live.  I disagree with Ed on to many issues.  I know he's a man's man and he must get ratings.  I know our tent is big, I just don't like his style.  He can't hold his own with conservatives like Randi, Sam or Thom can.  I am glad Mike is back!

Bring back Sam Seder

Please bring back Sam Seder from 9am to 12pm.  He is so entertaining. Thom is great, but we already hear him from 6 to 9am.  Thank you.

Thanks for Mike, yet too much Thom!!! Need Sam in AM
Thanks very much for Mike's return to KPOJ. However, taking Sam off in the morning was a mistake.  Thom is great, but not for 6 hours straight.
Posted By: Lee - Monday, April 9th 2007 @ 12:14pm
Still not happy with the schedule
Count me among the Ed Schultz fans. I would like to see him shifted to the live slot 9-12 and Thom's national show 3-6. I guess I'm the only one who can't stand Randi Rhodes. I tried listening to her, but even when I agree with her her voice is like fingernails on the blackboard. Plus she seems all opinion and no content: the anti-Thom as it were.

One of the best segments ever was when Al was on vacation and Tom Oliphant and Christy Harvey hosted his show. I would love to hear those two replace Randi.

Weekend Changes????
I like the new line-up.  Although I enjoy Sam Seder - having his show on twice a day wasted time that could have been spent on other excellent shows.
Now, are you planning any changes for the weekend?  Re-runs are not good for us who listen faithfully during the week.  There are plenty of other good liberal talkers out there.  I love Robert Kennedy and Mike Pappentinio (sp.?)!  Also, those info-mercials are beneath you!
Posted By: Alice Ericksen - Monday, April 9th 2007 @ 11:45am
Mike Malloy

The changes you made in the morning are welcome.  I like Sam Seder in measured minutes, but not for three hours at a stretch and I never listen to him at night.

Also, welcome to Carl Wilson.

Mike Malloy on the other hand brings nothing to the table, but vicious retoric and I was sorry to hear he is back.

One of the best aspects of Thom's program are his interviews with people in the know.  Laura Flanders conducts the same type of format.  Why isn't she on from 9pm to 12am?

I listen to you every day.  Keep up the good work and evolve a bit more.

Lineup change is great.
I agree with one of the comments regarding Thom Hartman.  His early show is geared more to issues that directly concern Oregon.  He talks with many local people.  His nationwide program is just that--nationwide with many people from all over.  Thom's knowledge of our Constitution and history make this program great!
Posted By: anonymous - Monday, April 9th 2007 @ 12:29am
the new line up
I am very excited to hear Thom, Heidi and Carl together and Thom's nationwide program live. I am a huge fan of KPOJ.

I would love to hear Randi Rhodes live since I no longer listen to Ed Schultz.

Keep up the good work!

Posted By: mary - Sunday, April 8th 2007 @ 5:50pm
In my humble opinion

I think Thom is the most erudite of the voices on radio today. Too bad he has to plug coffee goop and kitty kibble. It lessens his impact. Seems to put him in the corporate pocket. Nonetheless, If I want to hear the liberal-progressive point of view expounded and defended, Thom's the Man. Heidi's a gem and the two of them make for a great 3 hour show.

Rachel is Thom's late night equivalent. Excellent.

Fortunately, Malloy won't be on screaming when I listen.

And Big Ed is a big waste Air America air -- hot air.

Excepting the above two "personalities", KPOJ is a fine station, well worth the listening.  Keep up the fine work! ! !

It was heartwarming to see the many positive comments about Sam Seder's show.  How sad/stupid for AAR to fire him, now.  Peace

Love Hearing Tom
I think that this change is great!  Tom Hartman is my all time favorite and this way I can hear his comments on both national and local issues each day at a convenient time.  I enjoy his knowledge, insight into history, and his ability to put current events into historic context. I don"t care for Ed Schultz who I believe is too self-centered and goes overboard to please the establishment.
Posted By: anonymous - Sunday, April 8th 2007 @ 4:04pm
Sam???
What's this about Sam being fired?? And what is it going to do to KPOJ's new lineup?? Judging from the comments, everyone loves Sam. I say we bring him out here and give him Thom's morning show, since Thom is now going national.

Listener Comments
I have been reading the listener comments and it's clear there is a wide divide in opinion regarding Ed Schultz.

I would agree Ed went too far with his outburst against AAR. His company was probably stiffed by the previous owners and it probably gripes him that AAR does not work with the independent progressive programs. AAR is not the be all or end all of Progressive talk radio and I think it would be helpful to listen to non-AAR shows on KPOJ that otherwise might never be heard like the Bill Press show or Stephanie Miller now that she was dumped by 970 in favor of Dennis Miller.

It would be the height of idiocy to dump the radio program with the largest national audience. There are AAR programs that I really like (like Rachel Maddow's program) and I appreciate Randi Rhodes. I miss Al Franken's intelligent program but if KPOJ dumped Ed and catered completely to a hard left agenda,
Satellite radio sales would take off in Portland. Portland listeners would miss out on hearing Hillary, Barack and the national politicians in the Democratic party. How else are we going to hear these Democratic national politicians on radio but on a imperfect but viable Ed Schultz show?

Here is my preferred lineup:

6-9  Thom Hartman (local)
9-12 Ed Schultz (live)
12-3 Randi Rhodes (Live)
3-6  Thom Hartman (National, delayed)
6-9  Sam Cedar
9-12 Mike Malloy

If there was a way to work in an independent radio program, try them on the weekend first to see if there is interest instead of repeat programming.

The more Thom the better!
Thom Hartmann is the smartest personality on radio by far.  With the addition of Carl I'm sure there'll be plenty of material to cover the 2 time slots.  Mike Malloy is our answer to Michael Savage and his type.  Go get em!
Posted By: David - Saturday, April 7th 2007 @ 11:23pm
Need one more local host.
Tom has done a wonderful job exposing Gordon Smith as a right wing hack against the images of the major media outlets protraying him as some sort of  moderate.  But the progressive movement needs another local show to  keep exposing the right wing agenda as we start entering into the election cycle for 2008. I believe KPOJ and Air America played a vital role in turning Oregon into a strong blue state.  Remember, after 2000, the
GOP thought Oregon was in play.
Posted By: MrWebster - Saturday, April 7th 2007 @ 11:08pm
6 Hrs = 3 hrs 20 mins Thom + 2 1/2 hrs Ads
6 Hrs = 3 hrs 40 mins Thom + 2 hrs 20 mins Ads and you only get 1 hr 50mins of Thom on his own so surely it isn't too much for that brilliant liberal progressive voice.

Lineup

Please leave Sam Seder on in the morning, whether live or delayed from 9-noon.  Thom can be a bit droll, although informative; don't think I can listen to 6 hours straight.

I have also tuned out Ed Schultz after his meltdown over Sam Seder's comments.

Welcome back Mike Malloy...gotta love the leader of we the truth seekers!

movin' in the right direction
I'm very pleased to have Mike back. If you switched the timing of Sam's show & Thom's national one, that would solve the 6-in-a-row problem. And if there were a good replacement for Ed, I think that would be a good move. Thank you for being there!

I love the changes
I can't get enough of Thom Hartmann. He is absolutely the greatest.  It is so refreshing to have someone as intelligent as he is.  He is so informed and keeps us up-to-date on what is going on in the world.  I listen to him on my little radio while I walk early in the morning.  I don't need entertainment news---you get enough of that on TV.

I also love listening to Randi Rhodes.  I have learned so much from these two people.  My car radio is always on 620 AM KPOJ.

Keep up the good work.

Good Changes!
I really like the changes.  I could take 6 hours of Thom any day unfortunately I only get to hear parts of each show so I am glad you put him in there instead of 6 hours of Sam Seder. I agree with the comments from moonwiz7 about Ed Schultz and I switch to Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick on my lunch hour because of that.  I say, KEEP THE SATELLITE SISTERS! I have listened to them a long time and I can relate to so much of what they say.  I have always been a fan of Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy so I am thrilled that he is back when I can listen to him.  I also like Rachel Maddow and Mark Riley but unfortunately, sleep is necessary. I would like to say that Heidi Tauber rocks and because she is there with Thom (as well as Carl) the shows, I think, will be vastly different.  I have been listening to KPOJ since the station started and I am soooo glad you guys are here for those of us who want to be informed!

Thanks From Me Too

I love Air America - thank you for being there in the vast sea of insanity that has been talk radio for the past several years.  And thank you for bringing Mile Malloy back: I will be delighted to hear how he "hates those people" again.  Now if you could do something about the weekends -- I am one of your senior listeners, and the Silly Satellite Sisters reminds me too much of the days (1950s and 60s) when newspapers and other media had sections just for women -- as if we couldn't understand anything beyond the kitchen door. At least, their prattling voices get me out of bed on Saturday mornings, just to turn the radio off.  I know they buy their time on your station--maybe we could take up a collection?

Thanks again.  Jo Anna

Malloy again?
I was grateful when Mike Malloy left. I know that he is popular, but he is so over the top that can I see him alienating moderates and conservatives. He's like our own Michael Savage. I've always felt like Liberals were compassionate and tolerant in nature. He often seems to let his rancor toward Conservatives/ Republicans/ The Bush Crime Family go out of hand, resulting in maniacal tirades.
Not that I have any love or respect for Bush and his thugs, but when the entirety of Right-Wing Talking Heads circle the Left-Wing like vultures waiting for a sound bite to exploit, he makes himself an easy target.
Mike is a guilty pleasure for us Lefties, but his righteousness and blow hard nature are not how I feel we should be represented.

Conversely, I see a lot of criticism of Ed Schultz for being to close to center. I think it's an important jumping-on program for disenchanted Conservatives who are beginning to see their Golden Boy W for what he is. Ed went through a similar cross road and does retain his red-blooded roots, but he is well informed and middle America can identify with him. There are people out there that are Liberal but don't know it yet. They are going to listen to Ed before they are ready for Randi.

As for the arrangement of the line-up, I do wish we had more live shows.

Thanks for Mike!

We are so thankful you brought back Mike Malloy!!!  We believe he's the best progressive voice in radio right now.  But you can really replace Mr. Schultz.  He's sooo boring and almost seems right-wing at times.  And Thom Hartmann is good, but 6 hours?

Thanks again!

WHATZ UP WITH HEIDI LATELY!!!!
I cant figure out what is going on with Heidi Tauber recently!! When Thom was trying to inform listeners about the return of Mike Malloy and was about to launch into some interesting personal antecdotes about their long term friendship which I would have loved to hear, but she cut him of before he could get a word out and said \"yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah, suffice to say he is coming back on the air next Monday..\" Thom seemed kind of non-plussed by her reaction. Then on Friday, she kept repeating over and over in a super bubbly chirpy voice--\"HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY!!!!\" GOOD FRIDAY this... GOOD FRIDAY that....over and over again and \"THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!\"\"(referring to Easter) ad naseum. It felt like getting Christianity shoved down your throat--like she assumed and was thrilled that all of this society was on board! In our increasingly secular and or pluralistic multi-cultural society I felt that this over emphasis of one religion\'s holidays was inappropriate...or she should give Judaism\'s, Buddhism\'s, Islam\'s, Wicca\'s high holy days (and all the other religions\') equal enthusiam and promotion!! By the way-I am thrilled Mike Malloy is coming back!

Kudos to Hartmann
Thom Hartmann is amazing.  I'm glad we finally get his national show, though I'm bummed Sam gets bumped to the slot nobody seems to want.  It's kind of sad that Thom needs a comic to keep people interested.  His content is bar non the best on the air (just listen to one of his interviews!). I also don't get the seemingly vast support for Rhandi Rhodes.  She's divisive, which I guess is good for ratings, but spends way too much time talking at, over, and through people.  I'd rather Maddow and Rhodes trades time slots.  Onward!

How about more live broadcasts....
Congratulations on Malloy's triumphant return. I also look forward to the Hartmann national show at 9. Since most of your programming follows the (often breaking) news, you should run them live. Randi would kill at Noon with live programming. Seder would be good live. If you could move the "Turks" and delay the Maddow and Riley shows, you would be strong in the early morning. Never got used to the "Turks". Save your local broadcast for afternoons (3-6PM). Ed Schultz could be delayed further, for his show seems less information driven and more of a personality "cult". I could do without Mr. Schultz, thank you.

New programming line up
Like most of the comments posted regarding the new program line up, I must agree that 6 hours of Thom Hartmann is a bit much.  While I enjoy Thom's program, you are giving him 6 prime time hours of radio.  That's kind of nutty since there are many other choices such as Mark Riley and/or The Young Turks that have been relegated to the wee hours of the am when few are listening.  And for every posted complaint about Ed Schultz, I say x2 against Rhandi Rhodes.  Her time slot is when I turn the dial to another station.

But all of your programming sins are forgiven for bringing back Mike Malloy!  Thank you KPOJ for staying the course as a progressive talk format.  No matter who is scheduled or when, all of the radio hosts on your station are the voice of reason in a sea of corporate controlled media with a hard right wing slant.
Posted By: Gabrielle - Friday, April 6th 2007 @ 3:13pm
Gratitude.
I am pleased that Mike Malloy is returning to your lineup.

I agree with many of the posters...too much Thom.  Bright man but as he progresses with air-time, I find:

1.  Every guest or news event gets tied back to his life or where he has lived in his life.

2.  He talks over guests and you can practically hear him thinking about the next thing he wants to interject in...and again, usually some recollection of his life or where he was lived.  Frequent listeners will hear him give full respect to Bernie Saunders or other politicos, but the average schmuck or lesser guests will get spoken over...or even worse, he retorts back to living in Germany in the 70's or some other association that the guest topic or opinion can be brought back to him or his life.  Everything eventually gets brought back to him or his life, and quite frankly, this is exhausting to listen to on a daily basis.

3.  He is becoming terribly predictable.  I can fill in the next metaphor or again, what he has done in his life or where he has lived.

4.  Most of his guests are over shadowed by him, his experiences, and his agreement or disagreement with guest(s).  Many a time he has interesting guests that maybe speak for a few minutes and then air time gets filled with his (Thom's) opinions or predictable rants.

5.  And finally, his self promotion is also quite taxing.  So is his annoying voice over of "SCREWED" when mentioning his books or in regard to the middle class.

But, enough about Thom.

Mike Malloy is missed and I thank you for his return.

Bad news, looks like Sam Seder's going
Sam announced this morning that next Friday the 13th will be his last weekday show with Air America, and that he'll probably only be on Sunday afternoons.

Source: http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2007/04/seders-last-day-is-friday-13th.html

This might mean that Mike Malloy will be on live at 6 PM, instead of 9 PM. Poor KPOJ has to shuffle their schedule AGAIN...

Hooray Truthseekers, Malloy is Back!!

Some of the changes are great, but 6 straight hours of Thom is way too much for me.  Can't you put Rachael or keep Sam in that spot [9-noon]?  I will tune out otherwise.  Also, I am sick to death of that bogus blowhard and phoney Progressive, Ed Schultz; wish you would put him in an over-night slot.  He is dumb, uninformed, not well-read, totally reactionary, and basically remains  what he used to be, a Republican jock and sports announcer. He just re-invented himself to do a Liberal show, because there already was a "Limbaugh".    His rants against  AirAmerica, and AirAmerica's on-air personalities were horrible [for which he has never apoligized], and he has never aligned himself with your mission.  If he stays on, I will "tune-out" of KPOJ for 6 hours [9am-3pm].  Randi is kind of overbearding, but she is always well informed and researched in what she says.  Finally, I wish you would move Mike Malloy back to his old time slot of 10pm-1am for those who like to listen in bed!
P.S.............really, really hate the Saturday morning "Satellite Sisters"......yuck!!!

Good Changes.
Sirs,

Long time listener.  Hey, thanks for bringing back that midnight preacher Mike Malloy back. (I don't agree with all he has to say, but thats why I like him.) Like in the movie 'Pulp Fiction' "You sending the WOLF?, sh*t , thats ALL you had to say."

P.S.  Now bring back MORNING SEDITION (and we're fair and square.)

Good moves but could be better
First, thank you for bringing Malloy back.

Second, while I love Thom as much as anyone around here, 6 hours straight is just a little too much.

Third, can't you move Ed or Randi around so that we can have at least one of them live?

I love KPOJ, but only having Thom live in the morning leaves me feeling a little alienated from the rest of the talk radio nation.

Prefer Sam Sedar at 9am instead of Thom Hartmann
Thom seems like a pretty smart and earnest, but I agree with the other posters that he's not very entertaining.  Radio needs to be entertaining!  I'd prefer Heidi to have her own show over Thom.

Put Thom in non-prime time.  Sorry Thom, but a spade is a spade.

At this point, I feel Sam is your hit guy.  He's smart, great at radio, and very funny.

I Like It!
Wow!
Mike Malloy again.  He's great.  I'm glad you've scheduled Thom's national show and pleased that we still have Sam for 6 - 9.
We need this mix of personalities to get the message across.  Whenever I hear that Mike or Randi or Sam "is just too radical", I'm figuring that we're closing in on the wingnuts' agenda.  Keep up the good work.
Without having Air America on duty before the 2006 elections, we would have been stuck with the dishonest and dishonorable GOP'ers for decades.
Thanks.

Six hours of Thom....?
Personally, I think that's GREAT.  My reasoning is that if Thom keeps things the same we'll get the best of both worlds.  They have been basically covering local and Oregon news on their "Early Show" and then we get more of the "National" information on the second show.  He has such variety and wonderful guests on both shows.  My feeling is that Thom's main objective is to keep us up-to-date.  His local show is the only one that gives us LOCAL and OREGON info and interviews.  Now we'll be able to get his unbiased NATIONAL info and interviews.  I like hearing his ideas on things, but he brings in so many guests to interview that there is also a LOT of variety.  The other shows don't do this.  Many of the others, like Randi and even Mike Maloy, sometimes talk just to hear themselves talk.  I can only take so much ranting and raving and I have to turn off the radio.  That's my only complaint about Randi and Mike and I used to like both of them.  I'm sorry, I approve cutting Randi back to 2 hours and I might not listen to Mike much, we'll see.  I am looking forward to Thom's 6 hours because I don't think it'll even seem like 6 hours...it's not like we're listening to him talk on and on.  That's where he is different from other "hosts", as I mentioned earlier, and why he's my favorite.   I like to listen to Ed but I don't consider it a show that I get that much information from, he's just down-to-earth.

Thanks, Thom, for all you do to make sure we are able to hear all sides of things.  Just for the record...I appreciate Heidi also, and am looking forward to getting to know Carl.

Pretty good job
Good balance in the line up.
Sam Sedar is funny and brilliant, my current favorite. Prefer him in the 9 am slot, but, oh well. Randi, smart and passionate, and Thom, the great scholar ... Love them.  Randi LIVE would be great.
I could do without Ed. His heart is in the right place, but he's a bore and too simplistic. And, enough with the sports, hunting and fishing, already. I guess he has appeal to a certain segment, but I always end up turning him off.
I welcome back Mike Malloy, the man who calls out "the Bush Crime Family"! He is intense, but so great for getting out all the frustration and anger. The 9 - midnight slot is perfect for him.

Next frontier: weekends! Drop the Satellite Sisters. First time I heard them I thought I was on the wrong station!

I like Thom, but 6 hours?
I enjoy listening to Thom, but I'm going to have a tough time doing it for 6 hours straight.

Evolution needs to continue........
Kudos on getting Thom's national show on live!  NOW if you could follow that with Randi Rhodes live and then Sam Seder, followed by Mike Malloy you'd have a SUPER LINE UP!!!

GETTING ED SCHULTZ OFF THE AIR would be the best thing for KPOJ.  He is not researched, not well-read, not informed, and brings nothing to the table. He is what he is: a North Dakota former sports jock. I know of so many people who listen to KPOJ all day, but TURN IT OFF WHEN ED IS ON!  Such a waste of airtime.

Looking forward to continued evolution for KPOJ listeners!

Malloy-A-Holic REJOYCES!!!!
When Mike Malloy popped up on NovaM, I was MORE than willing to financially support THAT network because THEY brought me back my "drug of choice" - Mike Malloy! Now I can be HAPPY to listen to KPOJ again!

P.S. - DUMP that FRAUD Ed Schultz - he's a SCMUCK!

?
Yay, you're bringing back Mike Malloy.  I wonder if that means KPOJ is picking him separately, or if he's back with Air America?
Posted By: anonymous - Friday, April 6th 2007 @ 11:02am
6 hrs. of Hartmann ..... NO
I can't believe you are going to make us listen to Thom Hartmann for six hours.   That is way too much.   Please, please, please, keep him on from 9 pm until midnight, and move the Young Turks or Rachel Maddow in the morning.   I thoroughly enjoyed having Sam Seder in the morning and will miss him, and now you are forcing me to listen to six long hours of history lessons.   Three hours I can handle, but to have him on for SIX STRAIGHT HOURS  in the morning is too much.

The Young Turks and Rachel Maddow have a light heartedness and yet informative show and would be a perfect way to start the day.   In order to hear them, I have to miss a lot of sleep.

Please rethink your decision.

Posted By: Carol - Friday, April 6th 2007 @ 10:50am
Rachel Madow live!
Please put Rachel back on during a time slot where people who normally sleep at night can hear her.

She has arguably the best show few in Oregon have ever heard.

I just don't know what you were thinking
I love Thom Hartmann as much as the next listener, but six hours straight of the same voice? Come on... that is too much for anybody.  As well as there will probably be some material and interviews repeated.  You should break up the Thom hours and put him on in the 6p-9p slot. Sam Seder's show is great in the morning. In your new line-up the only shows we get live are Thom's. It would be nice to have SOMEBODY else live as well.  Or even nearly live.

I don't think this schedule is going to serve your community -- people who want to participate will have to listen online, people who want to hear shows live will listen online, people who will tire of the same voice all morning long will turn the radio off.  I can't understand why you would think this is a good move.  Granted, it is a good move for Thom because his show goes out live on his home station, but for everybody else [hosts and listeners] there is no benefit here. In fact you ruin Sam's show playing it so late.  what is the strategy?  I think it's a pretty sure bet you will lose listeners during the day even tho you will gain some Malloy fans.

As for Mike Malloy... I know a lot of people like him, but I can't listen to him.  I agree with 95% of what he says, i just can't stand all the yelling [since I agree with him, I don't feel I need to be yelled at] and I especially can't stand all the funny voices he likes to use. Ugh, I can't believe you brought him back.

I would much rather hear David Bender's show.  I hope you don't mess around with the weekends and get rid of Politically Direct.  You could definitely lose a few of the reruns of the same Randi Rhodes Friday show. It would be better if you at least reran some of the other days' shows. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Randi... but replaying the same show all weekend drives me crazy.

This new schedule just ruins my listening day.

G R E A T ! !
I love Thom's show.  6 hours of Thom live each day would be GREAT.  My next favorite is Ed Schultz.  Third comes Randi Rhodes.  The listed schedule looks good, but if Thom disappears from the 6-9am time slot I'll miss out on him completely because I can't listen to the radio at work.  If Thom does disappear from the local show, hopefully the web site will have a link for his opening half hour so that those of us who can't listen to his show can hear his comments on the news of the day along with the other segments.
Posted By: Dave G - Friday, April 6th 2007 @ 12:44am
IMHO
I'm so glad to have Mike Malloy back.
Thoms great but 6 hours straight.  I have to belive he plans to wean us off the local show.  If so I agree with many others that Randi and Ed should swap so at least 1 is live.  If Thom is going to keep doing both shows then bump Ed and Randy to their live slots and put Thoms show on at 3pm.  I like Ed but wouldn't mind Rachel or some of the other talent out there took his slot.  I spend a lot of time in my car listening to kpoj and its nice not to hear Sam twice.  Once is great.
Next do something about the weekends.  Let us hear something we don't get during the week please.
Posted By: ben k - Friday, April 6th 2007 @ 12:43am
You're killing me!
PLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEz don't do this.  I want Sam Seder from 9-12 noon.  I drive for a living and Sam (or Al) made the time fly.  Thom Hartmann is great--but not all that entertaining.

Thank you for bringing back Malloy.
I'm a huge fan of the majority of the programming on your station, but bringing back Malloy is probably the best move you've made to date.  Why AAR ditched him in the first place is a mystery to me...I mean, Michael Savage and Bill O'Reilly are ok to put on the radio, but Malloy's too controversial??  Please.  At least Malloy can back himself up with facts.

Thanks again...looking forward to listening to KPOJ at night again.

Glad to hear Mike is back.....love him! Sam is the the best, and I'm glad you're keeping him in the 6-9 slot so I can listen when I work late. You REALLY need to work on the weekends, starting with getting rid of the Silly Sisters. I would much rather listen to reruns of Rachel or Mike because I tend to miss their regular time slots.

Welcome back Mike Malloy!
While I don't always agree with all his views I have to respect his passion.  Some times I find myslef just wanting him to take a deep breath before he blows a gasket some where. It is a great late evening show.  As for the morning line up change.  I am a big Hartman fan but 6 hours in a row? Did anyone down there really think that one through?  6 Hours straight of the same host 5 days a week. Hopefully some one down there will realize how boring that is and make some changes quickly.

Losing interest in KPOJ
I've been listening to KPOJ since March 2004 ... from the very day it started, and I haven't switched yet.  However, there've so many changes the past 6 months or so, and to me, mostly negative.  At this point, no live shows all day long, unless you call Sam Seder's delayed transmission in the morning and Thom Hartman's I'm so great show in the morning.  Thom Hartman's arrogance, and full-o-mea is more than I can take in the morning as it is now (I've actually switched to Stephanie Miller from 6-8 on 970).  I miss Al Franken, and didn't really know what to think about Sam Seder until I listened to him for a few weeks, and now you're moving him to a time that won't work for me, and I'm sure, many others.  I like Ed Schultz, and have listened to him from the airing of his first show live until a couple of months ago, but am losing interest because it isn't LIVE, not because of Ed.  Same with Randi, it would be nice to actually listen to a Ed's and Randi's live show with current events as they happen.

Welcome Back, Mike!
I know Mike probably won't bring back "Sammy the Stem Cell" but it's nice to have him back in the radio "universe" I listen to.
RACHEL MADDOW is TERRIFIC!!!!  She deserves a better/earlier time slot.  Put her on from 6-8 p.m., so her analysis is fresher??!!
Please delete the "Satellite Sisters" from your lineup.  If you must repeat show, repeat Rachel!!!  How about filling weekends with more than "Ring of Fire" - which is great - and include other Liberal voices, such as that Rayburn fellow from Wisconsin who filled in for Rachel a couple weeks ago and Randi last week, Stephanie Miller or "Harrison on the Edge" from L.A., or that Stacey fellow from San Diego??

Welcome Back Mike Malloy!!!
Dear Mike (KPOJ),
You Did It!  You're a man of your word.  Thank you for bringing Mike Malloy back to our Portland airwaves.  He arrives with the SUN - how fitting - 2 disinfectants to clean up those dirty lies and shine the light of truth.  With Mike, Randi and Sam we can continue to educate ourselves about what's really going on.
I proudly display KPOJ on my bumper, and tell as many people as I can to listen.  I am so happy I'll be able to be a regular listener at night again.  Hallelujah!   PEACE,  Carole Ivy

Not enough live daytime programming!
6 hours of one voice is too much! It would be great to have more live programming, especially given the number of times in the past few weeks when live news is already too old by the time we hear it covered on KPOJ programs.
Posted By: anonymous - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 4:06pm
Yeah Thom - Now Put On Randi LIVE!!!

I like Thom's single show so 9-noon is good. Now put on Randi Rhodes LIVE PLEASE noon-3 and the line up would be vastly improved!  Ed is ok (but only ok - Sam Seder is better) Also, Mike Malloy's heart is in the right place but I much prefer Rachel Maddow who is much more informative and should definitely be on the air before midnight PLEASE! So a better line up might be:

Thom 9-noon

Randi noon-3

Sam 3-6

Rachel 6-8

Ed 8-11

Mike 11-2

P.S. I MISS AL FRANKEN AND HIS GUEST LINE UP!!!!!

Posted By: JT - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 3:53pm
Better, but ... keep Ed
seems we are split between fire-breathers, who like Sam and Mark, don't like big Ed, and moderates like me, who like Ed and won't miss the double dose of Sam.

even though i am among the Tom fans (think he is the best of the lineup) i would like to split his shows, allowing us hear Ed and Randi live.  since we get Tom live in the am, maybe we could hear his national show on delay?

How about:
6-9 Tom KPOJ (live)
9-12 Ed (live)
12-3 Randi (live)
3-6 Tom Nat'l (tape delay)
6-9 Sam

Posted By: ~jerry - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 3:37pm
Yeah, more LIVE shows
I love it that Thom will now be live to us on his national show. It has an entirely different feel than the morning show and LIVE is the best.
I really like to also hear from Ed Shultz.  Many of us progressives our here in PDX land are relocated mid-westerners like me from Minnesota, circa 1983.  He is a gentleman and a down-to-earth voice that does reach a lot of people's hearts.  Yeah, he's not liberal enough on the war and on the DLC dems, but I would really like to keep him just where he is.

Randi is awesome and a goddess.  But, I have to say she repeats herself a lot and needs something more to kick up the variety on her show.  I don't know, more guests maybe.

Anyway, keep up the good fight and thinking about ways to improve the airwaves.  Air America and KPOJ Rocks.

Wahoo
Now when I walk in the morning I can listen to Thom.  Thank you KPOJ for being there for all of us.  I love all these guys.  Ed is a little stuck on himslef but he's a middle of the roader and a good talker.  Just wish he would do more research on his subjects and not just throw out his opinions so much, but hey, after all the righties that used to be all there was on radio, I'll taek it all and love it all.  Thank you KPOJ, my favorite station.

Glad Mike Malloy Returning
I am really pleased about the programs available here on radio now compared to a few years ago. Since I listen  at various times of the day, I appreciate  the  mix of  various approaches and attitudes. Ed Schultz is not my cup of tea, but I believe he appeals to a broad segment of the population (although among posters here, not so much).  I am so glad at the prospect of hearing Mike Malloy on late night radio again and not having to listen to him online.
Posted By: Daniel - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 2:29pm
OOPS!!
To clarify, Ed Shultz may sound like Rush, and it freaks me out, he does not say the same things, as well as being married to one person as opposed to four. That much he has going for him.
Posted By: Ritchie - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 2:28pm
Dump Ed Shultz, make Randi, the Godess of Talk Radio Live
The fact that Mike and Kathy are coming back is huge!! I can't stand Ed shultz any more, he is full of himself, and on top of that, he sounds like Rush Limbah with a southern drawl. I would rather listen to music.I am always thinking that they moved Rush and I am on the wrong station. I can't listen to how good he thinks he is, sports, and more  about fishing!!! EEEEKKKK!!!! Nomore big Eddie T-bones for me!! The Godess of talk Radio for me live every time. I would like to see Rachel Madow moved to a more honorable spot, she is way to good to be at the back of the broadcast. What an inteligent broadcaster and informative program she has. I love "Ask Dr Madow" and the animal stories. I am a big news junkie. I would also like to stream programs that I missed for some reason on your website,  just like the station in Seattle.Thank you.

Sharing is Great.... but Keep Thom Local!
I love Thom Hartmann... and I'm glad that he is being shared nationwide.  His vast knowledge, willingness to listen to opposing views, and ability to change his own views when presented with information that supports such change make him an invaluable resource to national talk radio.

I know that the 6 hours of programming a day is a lot to ask (even of Tireless Thom), but I'm concerned that we are going to miss the best of Thom Hartmann when "Thom Hartmann and Heidi Tauber" becomes "KPOJ Mornings with....".

I feel the local show has much more warmth & gives a clearer picture of Thom than the national show.  I think that comes from the focus of a local program, and I believe local focus (connection) is a necessary component in getting people aware and involved.

The "Thom Hartmann and Heidi Tauber" program is easily the finest programming in all of KPOJ's line-up & is a wonderful way to start the day in Portland.  Please keep Thom as an integral part of that program.  Keep Thom Local!

Thumbs up to the new line-up

This new line-up works great for me.
Now Thom is at a time that I can actually catch the whole show.
And I still get Ed, one of my favorites.
And Randi, with her passion and concern for people.
And Sam, with his entertaining way of pointing out hypocrisy.
But Mike?  Before he went off the air I heard a couple of rants that insulted even a progressive like me.  I also heard him treat some callers in the same rude fashion that we hate about certain rightie talkers.  I hope he won't stoop so low anymore.

No More Ed Schultz
Please take off Ed Schultz!  And let us hear Randi live.

Thanks for Thom from 9-12.  I'm thrilled with that, but I switch stations at noon when blowhard Ed comes on.  He doesn't fit with the rest of your smart, sophisticated lineup

good changes. more needed I think
At first I was glad to not have Thom for 6 hours straight. I thought it would be overkill. But then as I listened to the station I realized that I wasn't getting to hear more than an hour of his morning show anyway. I like Thom a lot and I think Portland is lucky to have him here. I am glad that we now get to hear the Air America flagship show live with the rest of the country.

I'm also glad that we only get Sam once per day. I ended up hearing his first hour twice a lot of the time and that got kind of annoying.

I'd like to hear Randi live rather than having both her and Ed delayed. If Ed's going to be delayed anyway I don't think it would be that big a deal to have him 6 hours late rather than 3. That way we can get both Thom and Randi live.

A lot of people are saying they really don't like Ed and love that Mike Mallow is back. Wow. What a statement about this town. Not that I'm saying it's a bad thing. But Mike malloy is a firebreathing dragon of Progressivism. He can be a bit overbearing and I say that as a dyed in the wool Radical. I think Ed is fine as long as you accept him for what he is. Ed represents the bridge for our rural friends to see the Light. And he has stellar access to high level Senators that none of the other Air America folks have displayed yet. At least not to the extent he has. I love Portland. :)

Mixed reaction
I agree with lynn. As much as I love Thom Hartmann and feel enormously privileged to have him in Portland, I really don't want six hours in a row. I've been loving listening to Sam in the morning and fear I'll be hearing him a lot less after the format change.

But bringing Mike Malloy back is a HUGE -- Hooray!!! My only quibble with that is that he's on at night, and he gets me so riled up I can't sleep.

Weekends

Now that your weekdays are set, let's start working on the weekends.  About the only show that seems to be fresh on the weekends is Ring of Fire.  I don't miss that show!
But the rest of the weekend seems to be filled with repeat shows.  What can you guys at KPOJ do to bring us some shows we haven't already heard during the week?

OH, and my vote is to keep Big Eddie around.  What's up with MOI anyways??  Big Ed is the king.

Sam Seder
I'm very disappointed that you're moving Sam back to the night slot. I really enjoyed him in the morning, his humor and sharp wit were a great foil to the serious nature and slow pace of the Hartmann show.... but now we'll have heavy heavy listening all morning. You're losing your edge!

Very Positive Changes!
I'm really glad to have Mike back on the air here. The lineup changes are a real improvement IMO. Thom Hartmann's national show live (9 AM) is also a wonderful change.

If you could flip Randi's and Ed's shows so that Randi would be live would be even more wonderful.

I can't wait to hear what the "few more surprises" are!!!

...thanks for bringing back Malloy
This looks like a good line-up, as I was getting quite bored with the repeats...now if you would just dump Ed Schultz...I know he's a close personal friend of my accountant, but...I'm tired of him telling everyone he's not part of Air America when without Air America, we never would have heard of him....

We love your shows and all you do!!!  You are such an important voice.  Thanks for being there with the truth!!!

Keep working on it
I was hoping you would have Randi or Ed live in the 9 - 12 spot.
I like Thom, but it will be a lot of duplication from the local show.
Give us the variety that is available and have it live as much as possible.

Gettin' better all the time
Eager to hear Thom's nationwide show.
Now you need to get rid of Ed Schultz, he is a raver, and getting more into sensationalist issues, and away from politics.
Glad Mike Malloy is back too.
Repeating the Sam Seder show was too much.

new lineup
No offense to Hartmann, but I'm bummed to see that half of the prime daytime hours are taken up by him. I'm exclusively a daytime listener, and you've now swapped things around to where I have absolutely no reason to listen to your station.

Schultz is ok sometimes, but I'm not a big fan. And as for Hartmann and Rhodes, I'm put off by the style with which both argue with some callers (sure, those are callers usually spouting some stupid idea, but nevertheless, just hang up on 'em already!!!) Frankly, if I enjoyed listening to people argue like that, I wouldn't have just moved back from the East Coast. (At least there, I got the Turks during drive time...)

Yea!
Great lineup. Now I can listen, while I commute, w/o hearing the same program twice. I think KPOJ is the greatest!  Thanks!!!

gonna miss Sam
I will not be tuning in for Thom in the morning. I have really enjoyed Sam Seder and I think 6 hours of Thom Hartman is a bit much. Oh, well...back to NPR and KEXP.

New Line Up

I like this new weekday schedule.   I like Ed Schultz, so leave him on.  Get rid of the "satellite Sisters" on Saturday am.  Geeze that is some stupid stuff - I guess they pay you to be on air?

Posted By: Mary Braunch - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 11:42am
Say NO to Ed Schultz
Please take Ed Schultz off your lineup.  I change the station when he comes on at noon and tune you back in for Randi. I listen to your station for politics, not trivia.

Mike is back!

So glad Mike Malloy is back.  Even a taped delay is a 100% improvement.  I could do without Ed Schultz, but overall this is fantastic.

Thank You!
We have all missed Mike Malloy a lot, and, yes, been very patient. Now he's back, oo-rah! Thom Hartman, Randi Rhodes, and + Mike Malloy; you hit the tri-fecta; and about time.

YAY! Mike Malloy is Back!

Kudos to 620 for bringing back Mike Malloy! I missed listening to him.  One thing, though.  I really like Thom Hartmann a lot, but 6 hours followed by Ed Schultz is just intolerable.  Why not allow another show some of those prime slots (like Rachel Maddow, Mark Riley, or even Mark Maron)??

NEW LINE-UP
SORRY, I CAN'T DO SIX HOURS OF THOM HARTMAN.  HE IS VERY GOOD AND PROBABLY THE SMARTEST GUY OUT THERE, BUT NOT SIX HOURS, PLEASE!  I LISTEN TO NOTHING BUT KPOJ BUT THERE WILL BE A CHANGE IF THIS SCHEDULE STAYS.  ED SCHULTZ IS MY FAVORITE, RACHEL, MARK AND SAM ARE GREAT. I JUST DON'T GET IT, THAT LONG FOR ANYONE IS TOO LONG.

I'm neutral on Mike Malloy returning.
Sure wish we could hear The Young Turks 6-9am so that I could sleep in!  If you must keep Ed Schultz, why not move him to the 3-6am time?!!  We don't hear him live anyway.  I have to switch the channel when he comes on, he is almost unbearable.
Thanks for keeping Sam and Randi in their current slots.

thanks for the return of Mike Malloy!

I am very happy that kpoj has decided to bring back Mike Malloy.  I really missed his show.  Now could you please extend your "evolution" to the weekend programing and dump the satelite sisters?  Also, while I understand that you must sometimes fill space with reruns of shows, could you please stop the practice of rerunning the SAME show multiple times over the course of the weekend?  I enjoy Randi, but I would really rather hear reruns of the earlier in the week shows instead of multiple reruns of the Friday show.  Thanks again for Mike!

Break up Thom's time;Mike later, Rachel and Mark earlier
I like Thom very much but six hours straight?  Here's hoping Carl will help break it up a bit.  Mornings and evenings are my best times to listen. Thank you for keeping Sam at six; just love him. I like Mike but he is so over the top that I can't listen to him very often.  He certainly will do nothing to help  build bridges between us and the other side the way that Thom and Ed do. Put him at midnight or later. I like Mark R. and Rachel M. very much but never get a chance to listen to the radio in the wee hours - would love to see them in Mike's current spot or put Thom's national back at 9 pm and switch them to 9 am. I know some listeners can't abide Ed but I find him a refreshing change. I would never hunt and don't eat meat but he is well informed, a good moderator, and where is it written that liberals are all supposed to be exactly the same?
Posted By: Mary - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 10:36am
Perfect!
Thanks so much. This is the perfect day of listening. I work out while I listen and now I'm going to make great strides. I like Sam but the voice of reason we have in Thom makes it great that we can spend more time with him in the morning.

Dump Ed
I agree with Lynn; carry Randi live and dump Ed Schultz.  I'm not sure to whom he's appealing, but I don't think it's within the reach of your signal here in Portland.  And while I will miss waking and going to sleep w/Thom Hartmann, I appreciate Mike Malloy coming back.  I'll just have to start secretly streaming at work so I can get my fill of Mr. Hartmann as well.  Thom/Heidi and Randi Rhodes are my faves.
Posted By: anonymous - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 10:11am
Ed or Randi
Hey,

I like Thom but six hours is too much I agree.   I am guessing he will eventually be replaced by Carl in the morning?  Why not Ed or Randi live? Then maybe Thom later at night.
Posted By: Nora - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 10:08am

2 hours of Thom in the morning is more than enough, but six?  Not for me.  Maybe move his 6 hours to 12am to 6am

Good to have Mike back. He is not afraid to delve into the truth.

For the record, who will be on live?

Also, if you can get a larger group of advertisers and play the same commercials less often, that would be great.  After hearing songs about pasta or Toyotathons a hundred times a week, I start turning to a different station.

Good Moves
In general I like the new moves.
I just hope the next evolution can include moving Randi and Rachel both to live slots and relegating Ed to the late night purgatory. It is becoming a bit painful to listen to him. His rant against AAR was more than I could take and more than I can forgive.

Gee, this is not a good line up for me. Steph and rachael are my favs and you have one at the ungodly hour of midnight to 2pm and the  other not on at all. bummer. guess will have to listen to radio over internet...from another town far far away.

An Improvement
I am glad you are airing Thom Hartman's national program live
but I only wish you would find a way to add Stephanie Miller. I do think 6 hours of Thom Hartman is a bit much but I suspect that it will work itself.
Posted By: norm - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 2:53am
Yes! Mike is back!
It will be nice to hear Mike's voice over the air again.  And Thom is a wonder.  That he can keep his wit so sharp for six hours running is remarkable, but he always exceeds expectations.  If only I could listen that long!

And Randi is darn near perfect.

(What was the melt-down that is attributed to Ed Schultz on the kpoj anniversary commercial, by the way?)

Posted By: paul - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 2:35am
live would be awesome
I'm thrilled that Thom will have his nationwide show live on KPOJ! Of all the hosts, he's the only one I think I could handle for 6 hours (as if I actually get up at 6am).

PLEASE consider that airing Randi Rhodes LIVE would be far better than delaying her to fit in the drive time slot.  We can't all stream online & yet we have plenty to offer the conversation.

Ed Schultz could be delayed... I appreciate the guests he has on even though I don't agree with his ideas all the time.

Now, don't get me wrong ... I love, love, love Thom Hartmann, but wouldn't it make more sense to continue to carry Sam Seder "live" 9-12? I also love Sam Seder. He's proven himself to be one of the best "we" have (on the left).

BUT YAY!!!! Mike Malloy is back?!!! I'm very happy about that -- thank you!

All around, I couldn't be more grateful for KPOJ (and Air America).

I don't believe it!
I can't believe a for-profit corporation is capable of making the good decisions I see here!  I LOVE that Mike is coming back, love Thom Hartmann,  and I'm very happy to listen to Rachel when I get off work at my night job!  Thanks for moving Sam to once a day, though I have to interject one sour note:  his show is full of "These will be the big stories of the day" news items, and by the time he's on at 6, all the other hosts have fully informed us about them already.  Oh well, I have to give you guys an "A" on your new lineup!
Posted By: PortlandMark - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 1:47am
Malloy?????
I'll give him a try, of course, but Malloy gets into such "hater" rants that I have to turn him off sometimes. His screaming and cussing makes him sound like a left wing "Mike Savage". Perish the thought. Mike.....my suggestion: Don't run off your friends. Stay "sane". I tried to email Malloy once about a growing "moderate" Christian stand on politics that is FAR from the Far Right extremists. I referred to Jim Wallis and the Sojourners organization (a progressive ecumenical movement that is very anti war and very PRO on the poor, healthcare issues, etc.). Malloy's response was so hateful and condemning that I quit listening to him for some time. I'll give him another chance, but folks like Thom are more likely, in my opinion, to change minds and educate listeners.

Patience Pays Off

Thank you for bringing back Mike Malloy, Cathy and Molly, back  to his old time slot is perfect.  He has been missed.  Don't know if I can do 6 straight hours of Thom.  I like the idea of moving Ed and Randi to live time slots.  I can hardly wait for Monday when Mike is back!

Posted By: anonymous - Thursday, April 5th 2007 @ 1:44am
The 6 AM Slot?
Mike,
Thank you so much for keeping 6 Am local, but please don't replace Thom with Carl.  I am concerned it is headed that way.  I think I heard Carl make disparaging remarks against USA TODAY and thus I have a grudge against him.  USA TODAY has grown into a valuable source of information.  Even the "LiFE" section has great segments on health. Each section is like a magazine. I don't think Carl is funny.  I want to be able to hear Thom from 6AM to 9AM as I work and can't listen from 9AM to noon.  Thom's info is invaluable. He's built up a wonderful relationship with our elected officials.

Kari Chisolm is my favorite guest.  Also, please keep the connection with Talk Radio News on both of Thom's shows.  I love that segment.

About the 9 PM slot: Altho I loved getting to hear at least part of Thom's national show from 9PM to 12 midnight, I am so happy to have the screaming mimi back!  Malloy's rants are sometimes hilarious and I just love listening to him during my nightly bath!  Thanks for bringing him back!

If you want us to let KPOJ sponsors know we are listening, you might want to post their names/numbers on your web site so we can contact them and thank them.

Love your station and I have your bumper sticker on my car.  I live in the Salem area.

I like your new line-up, but I still feel it would be better if you delaid Thom Hartmann - Nationwide, and put Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes on live.  You could follow them with Thom Hartmann - Nationwide and the rest of your schedule as is.  I too am glad Mike Malloy is returning.

Ed and Randi
Count me as another vote for Randi live!  Ed Schultz is no progressive (heck, he's not even very liberal) and does not deserve such a high-profile time slot on your station.  Move him to overnights or drop him altogether.

I also agree with the person who said six hours of Thom Hartmann is too much.  Thom is well-read and I agree with him most of the time (except when he starts hating on "illegals," then I just have to turn the dial).  Why not let Carl and Heidi do the mornings and then just carry Thom's national show.  Anyway, thanks.  On balance I'm glad this station exists.

I am so glad to have KPOJ in Portland.  The variety is great. Ed Shultz especially speaks to the blue collar, lower middle income person.  The others are just good progressive activists.

But if I can't listen to Thom-I do get to listen to Mike!!!
Posted By: Teresa - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 11:08pm
a little maturity would be good
Maybe you could take a break from Randi Rhodes and make her assist Ed Schultz or Thom Hartman for a month or two.  She needs to learn to engage her brain before running her mouth.  Her heart's in the right place, but she sticks on one idea like a broken record (yes, vinyl, the old stuff) and if her facts are askew, she makes a fool of herself and bores us.

Ed and Thom represent progressive thought more convincingly.

Lineup changes

It would be great if ALL shows could be live but that's the price one pays for living on the Left Coast.

Ed Schultz was never one of my faves, but I enjoyed hearing his perspective on occasion.  Apparently he doesn't have a high regard for Air America so I suggest his program be dropped by KPOJ ASAP.

I'll never intentionally listen to Mike Malloy!

Sam Seder has his moments but I'm concerned that Air America has too many comedians in its lineup.  Now it turns out Thom Hartmann's local show is adding a stand-up comic.  How can this network be taken seriously if it relies on comdians rather than thoughtful intellectuals such as Thom Hartmann.

Posted By: Deke - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 10:54pm
This is an improvement...I would just tweek it a little...
Like previous postings, I would also prefer Ed & Randi live...How about moving them up and then putting Thom Hartmann-Nationwide in the 3-6pm slot.

I love Thom...but 6 hours in a row???

(of course you realize that regardless of what you do, somebody is going to take issue with the schedule.)

Keep up the great work!

Oh and while you're at it can you get rid of those opera-based pasta commercials or ask them to change them???  I turn my radio off every time I start to hear one.  Thanks :)

I am one of those activist seniors who doesn't sleep very much, so I listen to KPOJ around the clock.  Since KPOJ, I am so much more informed because I have little time to read so depend on the radio.  If this situation in Washington ever become tolerable again, I am hoping you folks will address with tragic criminal justice sentencing system we have in this country.  A huge issue, basically hidden from public view.  Too many behing bars, too much money spent on prisons.

I do like this lineup better than the one we just had.  I am glad to see Mike Malloy back.  I listen to Thom and Heidi every day.  I don't really need Thom's National show too - but the replay of his national show on the weekends is nice.  There is other talent out there.  Carl and Heidi only?  Thom just on the National?  I'm not sure it's what I want - I have to hear more of Carl first.  Thom's show is my favorite.  Welcome back Mike!!!!

Thank you, thank you for bringing crabby ole Mike Malloy back!!!!  I have missed him soooo much....he is my unspoken voice!!!. and thank you for keeping Tom on at a decent hour...Randy of course speaks "the truth" and we need her to motivate us...Ed is ok but his good ole country boy stuff gets old for me but I don't dislike him...Sam Seder boring...so I will watch TV when he is on..or stream NovaM from Phoenix during his show..then tune in for Rachel of course, .the 3 turks are goofy so that middle of the night hour is perfect for them... and I can go to sleep when Rachel is over and sleep until Tom is on the air...

Thanks so much for a Wonderful new schedule....Don't change it unless Sam Seder goes away...then you can fill his spot!!!...

New line up for weekdays
So glad Mike Malloy is back! Missed his intellect and straight forward confrontational style---he calls it like he sees it and that's something that seems to be missing in American dialogue the past several years. I think its called "free speech". Only 2 small requests in the KPOJ show schedule: 1) would like Randi on from 4 to 7 pm so I could listen to her on the way home from work as I always did in the past: 2) Ed Schultz is simply not my style---a little too folksy and a bit loud at times. Somehow, I don't object to Randi gettin' heated on a topic or with a caller as I'm accustomed to baudy New York broads. Wish Rachael or Laura could be on in that afternoon time slot; I turn off and tune out to ole Ed. Good luck and keep up the wonderful work you do! For me, its like "radio free Europe" was in WWII---only now, its "radio free America"! Thank God (and whoever else) for your station! I'm doubtful I could have made it thru the last 4 Bush years without you. You are my sanity in a world of really dumbed down Americans---just like GW, they don't read and have closed minds and aren't even aware they might be losing their democracy. NO CLUE!

Thanks Again,

Kate

Thom Hartmann is a huge asset to our times, we're lucky he's in Portland.

Why not cut to the chase? Give Carl a shot from 6 to 9 and see if he can hold it? Do Sam from 9 to noon (I have grown to love his show. He really knows his stuff). Thom is great but his style plays well in delay (it is like a good book; you can pick it up anytime). Ed Shulz sucks; I can't stand to listen, but you know your demographics. Rhandi is also tough to listen to; she knows her stuff but she is irritating to listen to. Rachel is much better.

I really like this change. I haven't been able to catch Tom's national show, and now I can. Plus... 2 installments of Sam was too much Sam.

For my money... the only hole in your programming schedule now is the Ed Shultz show. The world is complicated. Ed Schultz is not. I'd love to see you replace him with something smarted or more entertaining. Otherwise.... you've got great offerings all day long.

thanks for being there!

Better if it were live
1st glad to have Mike back!

Here's my ideal schedule:

6-9 Tom and Heidi
9-12 - Ed Schultz (live)
12-4 - Randi Rhodes (live)
4-7   - Sam Seder
7-10 - Tom Nationwide
10-12 Mike Malloy

The important thing here is Rhandi and Ed are live!  Also we do not have 6 hours of Tom in row.  As much as I love both of his ahows, I will have to switch to NPR for awhile to get a change of pace.

Just my 2 cents!

Stephanie Miller
It would be nice if KPOJ could incorporate Stephanie Miller in their line up, as the fascist station she is on now is not conducive to her listening audience.  To listen to Stephanie, and then have a Dennis Miller commercial interupt a cognitive thought...  Well it is a reason to turn back to KPOJ after 8:00 in the morning.

Mike Malloy coming back is great news!  the past almost 8 months have been too long.  Getting Thom's national show is great too.  Now if we can only do something about that dead air at noon-3pm....

I like Mike!
Good line-up, although 6 hours of Thom must be harder on him than it is on me. I love Ed, he gives progressives a good voice. Mike's enegy is infectious.... of course Randi is Queen.

Please keep Sam on in the day time
Please keep Sam in the day time.  Let Ed fill the evening slot.  I find him to be not good listening.

Sam
Sorry to see Sam Seder moved from the mornings. Thought he did a great job fillilng the slot Al left. Thanks Sam for all the laughs!!

HOO-RAY!
I'm SOOOO excited that you are moving Thom Hartmann's national show to 9am, where it will be live!
I'm also glad you had Sam Seder in that time slot for a while because I got much more familiar with him and came to really value his show, but since I usually have the radio on until 7pm everyday it was a little redundant after a while. I was also very disappointed every day that I missed Thom's national show because after listening from 6:30am-7pm every day, I just never could make myself listen to him at 9pm.

Congratulations on bringing back Mike Malloy too! He's really not my cup of tea, but on the occasion when I'm out and about in my car, he's always fun in small doses. I also know that he has a hard core loyal following, so I'm sure they'll be thrilled too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do for our community! I listen to Air America stations often when I travel, but I don't think any of them hold a candle to what you do here in good old Portland and I'm always overjoyed to be home from the road!

Regards,
Carol Dillon

New Line Up
Adding Carl Wolfson to the morning line up is ok but why do you have Thom on for 6 hours?  I love him but really it's too much Thom!  Sam Seder was great in the 9am to 12 spot.  6 pm is the dinner and radio gets shut off about that time.  So I guess I'll just have to podcast him. I think you could've done better.

Almost - Great Lineup
The order of greatness:

Rachel Maddow  - most astute host, savvy, very cool!

Thom Hartmann - so cerebral, compassionate!

Mike Malloy - disturbingly right-on!

Not so good:

Ed Schultz - has started to believe his own BS, a liberal version of Limbaugh!

Thank you!
Awesome! Mike Malloy is baaaaaack! Thanks for responding to the many requests to bring him back!

YEA! YOU DID IT RIGHT

So glad that we will be able to hear Thom Hartmann Nationwide LIVE!  I was really sorry that this wasn't the lineup when Al Franken left.  I think Thom is the most knowledgable of all the Progressive Hosts and really admire him.

Finally, the world is right.
Tom at 9-12 locally, I can toss my ipod.

Good but could be Great!
Nice to get Thom's national show live.  I'll adjust to another "wake-up" personality, knowing that Heidi will be a constant.

Now, add my voice to those:

1)  Wanting Randi Live
2)  Wanting Ed Schulz at a less prime time.  He's not relevant to the Portland progressive market -- doesn't appear to be informed or educated beyond mainstream media.  Can't count the number of times I've had a "d'oh" moment listening to him.

YES !
Yes !  Mike Malloy returning is great news. Also, Adding Carl to the morning show is a great stroke.  We love Tom, but that man needs some kind of award for radio ironman.  For those who haven't heard Karl - be prepared to spill some coffee.....
THANKS KPOJ

Need to Move Ed Out of Time Slot
I'm looking forward to Tom's National Show. I can't live without Randi. I have come to really enjoy Sam's show, but I'm not able to listen in the 6 pm to midnight slot. (I catch some of Rachel's show, which I enjoy.) I love your station and Air America, but I usually turn the radio to something else when Ed Schultz comes on. Please consider putting Sam Seder's show between Tom and Randi. I would be very happy, then!!!!!!

Yay!!!
Mike is back! THANK YOU!!!
Posted By: Diane - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 8:16pm
I'll Miss Sam....
Look... No offence to Thom.  Love him and all, but now he will be on ALL DAY !!!  Would have rather kept the cutting edge of Sam Seder in the morning, then let Thom on for more.  I'm a bit dissapointed.
Posted By: anonymous - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 8:10pm
Drop Ed like a bad habbit
Drop Ed Schultz.
He may be an all right guy but...
he hates Air America
he appears on Fox News
and lets face it... he's just not very smart or well researched.

Drop Ed.
Move up Randi (live) and Sam.

But, great on Thom's national show live and bringing back Malloy!

changes
very happy to see Mike Malloy back too.  and i agree with most of the comments that Randi would be so much better live!  i only listen to Ed because he is on KPOJ in that time slot, but i'm not a huge fan.
Posted By: anonymous - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:56pm
great line up!
thank you ! i am so happy to get mike malloy back! what a passionate progressive! this sounds like the perfect lineup! i will now have my 14hrs a day without repeats!

LOVE the lineup changes
I love the changes you made!  I can't get enough of Thom and don't mind listening to him for 6 hours straight.  AND Mike Malloy back in the evening!  Great job!

World war II survivor

I like Ed shultz but I wish he didn't have such a large ego. I bet it turns alot of people off. I like what he says most of the tome but I wish he would,t toot his own horn so much. I know he is an ex jock and that seems to go with the territory.

Posted By: Bill - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:51pm
new schedule
I would rather listen to Sam in the 9am slot.  better replacement for Al.  i was afraid i was going to miss Al, but Sam is so good at that time that he filled the gap.  How about running tom's national show at 6pm?
Posted By: anonymous - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:51pm
Yes
Yes, Yes, Yes this is a dream line up!  Thank you!
Posted By: Michael in Vancouver - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:50pm
Ed Schultz is a poser!!
Ed Schultz is from the Alan Colmes school of gop operatives pretending to be progressives. Can't stand him.
Posted By: JBG - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:49pm
Please Reconsider.
I'm very sorry to hear about the return of Mike Malloy. Unreasonable, ill-informed ranting does no good for the progressive cause, hate is hate regardless of which side is spewing it.

I hope you will reconsider this decision, as I believe it will lead to loss of both listeners and sponsors.

p.s. put Rachael Maddow in that evening slot, you're making poor use of the networks best and brightest.

Happy to see Mike Malloy back!!!!!!
Thank you KPOJ for bringing back Mike Malloy.
I really enjoyed his show, and I will be sure to support
his sponsors and tell my friends to as well.

line-up feedback
- infinite thumbs-up for the return of Mike Malloy

- lose Ed Schultz already !

- move Rachel Maddow into the waking hours

Mike Malloy's back at last. I have been streaming him on the Phoenix station.

Program line-up
I really like it that you brought back Mike Malloy!  He adds a spice of life to the line-up and speaks with his heart.

But.....why oh why are you putting Ed Shultz on at noon to three?  At this point, he is already a late broadcast.  Not live.

Put Randi there!  She belongs in the noon to three slot!  She would be live, and we could actually call her while she's on the air.  She is the one that got me hooked on Air America and progressive talk radio.  She is the Queen!

Ed is ok, but I am dissapointed with his view of Air America and their shows.  Remember that day he went crazy???  He never apologized for the nasty things he said.

I will look forward to more changes in your daily line-up.  You are getting better, but with Randi live, you got it made!

New Lineup
Glad we're going to have Thom's nationwide show live and thanks for keeping Ed Schulz.  I look forward to Ed's show every day - he has great access to a LOT of Senators and Congress persons and it's great to hear them.
Posted By: Pat - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:39pm
Rachel Maddow
I sure wish Rachel Maddow would be on at a more convenient time for all of us to listen!  She's one of the brightest, wittiest, most fun to listen to!  I miss hearing her.

Mike is Back!!
Sweeeet!!! Mike Malloy is BACK!! I missed him... glad he's been returned to the KPOJ lineup.. I'll make sure to buy something from one of the companies advertising during his show so this (hopefully) won't happen again anytime soon.

Love the others in the lineup as well !!!

What a Relief
Memo to Management: I have nothing against Sam Seder.  I like the guy's perspective, and his wit.  But 3 hours of rehash every evening was a bit much.  Now the loyal listenership won't have to endure encore shows, and that's all to the good. Bravo
Posted By: Hal Rosene - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:22pm
at least one?
Can't we get at least *one* live show between Ed and Randi? (you know, moving both of them up 3 hours would make them *both* live!)

Portlanders have a lot to say. It's a shame we can't participate in either one of those two GREAT shows.
Posted By: anonymous - Wednesday, April 4th 2007 @ 7:22pm
Cool!
I heard Carl Wolfson for the first time recently when Thom was away. Carl is cool. Very smart and very quick.

Mike Malloy is great, especially late at night. I just love to hear his rants while I'm drinking whiskey!

Good on ya!

- Mark

Mike's Back, Hooray!!!!
I am overjoyed to see Mike Malloy is returning!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, KPOJ, and welcome back, Mike.  You've been missed hugely.
Yippee!  I'm dancing for happiness!

glad to see mark riley and mike malloy back.
i do not care for ed schultz

Better to have him back delayed....
Thank God Mike is back. Sure it would have been nice to not have him delayed, but heck, having him on delay is about 100 percent better than not having him at all!

Thanks KPOJ!

waaah
Someday, please oh please, can we have Randi Rhodes LIVE?!  Why not switch Ed and Randi so we can still have both?!

Must say I'm disappointed to see Mike Malloy back.  I truly can't stand the way he treats some of his callers... he needs to take a lesson in tact from Ed.  I thought we "progressives" were above the name-calling and "O'Reilly-esque" attacks.  I have literally had to turn the radio off when he starts his rampages.

The Young Turks are great though... looking forward to giving them a listen.
