Film production is labor intensive industry that can hire hundreds of people at good living wages.

While Oregon will never, realistically,  be Hollywood north or B C south it does have the potential to attract more out of state productions while fostering a healthy business environment for the growth of the local film production community.

What is your position on how Oregon can encourage more out of state productions to locate here and what the state can do to help the local film industry to grow?

leadership
Barack Obama campaigned on making improvements
in many areas however the Senate does not seem to
share his purported goals.
We can say that health care, jobs, and education are our
priorities but what specifically do you plan to do to
make sure there are improvements in these areas.
No broad generalizations here - we need specific plans
of action - so what are yours? How will YOU exert the
kind of leadership to get the job done?
Also what are your plans to be sure there is funding to
make sure violent criminals stay in jail. It is sickening
to constantly hear of these people being released to
victimize yet another person especially children.

LNG
Do you think that LNG is a viable bridge fuel for Oregon?

Do you think that the jobs and tax revenue from construction and operation of an LNG terminal in the Columbia will offset the loss of salmon habitat? farm revenue? forestry? national security? old growth forests? vineyards? personal property rights? our energy independence and development of green energy?

Health Care
On 12-10-09 the Central Committee of the Multnomah County Democratic Party passed a Resolution Supporting Single Payer Health Care System.  The resolution urges  "our  elected representatives" "to support and vote for a single payer health care system that covers all Americans regardless of income, employement, or health".

Do you agree with the resolution, and what will you do to ensure health care access for all Oregonians?

Question for Mr. Kitzhaber
Early in your campaign for governor, you made a statement to the effect that you wanted to see more bi-partisanship in decision making in Oregon.  For many progessives like myself, that tends to translate into comprising principles, watering down good legislation and/or caving in to conservatives.

Please tell us what is more important to you - acting on the courage of your convictions, even if it isn't popular or offends politcial opponents, or working toward bi-partisanship and common political ground?

What is your position on the proposed LNG terminals and pipelines in Oregon?

Legalizing marijuana would end the recession
Is there anyway you would consider legalizing recreational marijuana use? Our Constitution is printed on hemp paper. Hemp production used to be a national security issue. Our navy's ropes were made of hemp. Taxation of marijuana would bring in much needed revenue to the treasury of our state and nation.

Medicare Part E.
Carl,
We really enjoy your show, Thank you. I am a nurse, and I see how health insurance companies are able to dictate what and when and where patients are able to avail of their health care. Alot of our patients are sicker when they come to the hospital because they wait until they are "really sick" ; and worried of how they are going to pay to get healthy again. Could you ask the candidates if we are going to have Medicare part E in Oregon. Thank you.

State Government
What are both candidates position on addressing the very real problem of propaganda and negative media toward public employees? Please address this as not a "canned" question, but really what is the solution?

Thank you.

Boom or Bust
Even when the economy is booming in Oregon we always seem to have problems funding education and then when the economy is in a downturn the funding issue develops into a severe crisis.

How can we fix this.  My children went to school during the 1990's boom bubble economy and yet schools still had funding problems.

Fighting LNG
If elected governor, what would you do to fight the petropigs'  spectacularly stupid scheme to foist unneeded, environmentally distructive and explosively dangerous liquefied natural gas ships, terminals, regasification plants and pipelines on Oregon?

LNG
LNG is extremely controversial in Oregon because of the impacts to salmon, the Columbia River and Coos Bay fishery, farmland, and forestland.  Would you use the state's authority to reject LNG in Oregon?

State of Oregon's Economy-Jobs and Revenue
I would like to know how you would use hemp as an investment in jobs, revenue for our schools, plus the other numerous industrial and medical uses of cannabis and or hemp once the Federal Government has lifted the prohibition on this wonderful plant.
Thank you

Concerned Citizen
The proposed development of Liquefied Natural Gas terminals on the Columbia River and Oregon Coast and the connected 600 miles of new LNG-related gas pipelines are threatening not only our farms, forests and rivers; they also threaten the jobs of hundreds of Oregon workers who rely on healthy fish runs and functional farmlands for their economic viability.  LNG promoters claim that Oregon needs the jobs that would be created through construction of the terminals and pipelines, but in reality Oregon stands to lose jobs in fishing, farming, forestry and the renewable energy economy if LNG is allowed to go through. Will these governor candidates stand up for the thousands of Oregonians who's livelihoods are at stake for this speculative energy developemnt? Will these candidates work to protect not only our critical salmon habitat and threatened forests, but also stand up for the landowners and fisherpeople who's financial sustainability would be dashed by allowing out-of-state energy speculators to facilitate foreign fossil fuel development in our state? Will these candidates oppose LNG in Oregon to protect our natural resources and existing economies?

Funding Post-secondary Education

Post-secondary education in the State of Oregon has experienced several budget cuts in recent years. Teaching and support staff have been forced to do more with less money and the students are the one who suffer in the long run. Community colleges have been especially hard hit with budget cuts. The erosion of tenure-track faculty and the abuse of contingent faculty over the last 30 years has seriously effected the quality of post-secondary education, both in Oregon and the nation.

It has been said by many that education is an investment in the future of our state and our nation. How do you plan to invest in post-secondary education, and therefore in our future, as Governor of Oregon?

Water for the Common Good

Would you work hard to prevent the further privatization, commodification, trade or export of Oregon's surface and ground waters?

Environmental Concerns

For both candidates - specifically do you support an off-site casino in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area, and more generally, what do you propose that the state of Oregon should do to aid in the protection of environmentally sensitive areas.

Economy and Job Creation
One of the economic sectors that we can be competitive without loosing more jobs to China, Latin America, or other parts of Asia is Tourism. Oregon has a perfect geographical landscape to attract tourists at both the national and intarnational level. What is your plan to attract tourism investors an build a more sustainable tourism industry that will ultimately create construction, hospitality, and entertainment jobs? What about boosting government revenues via the taxing of new casino operations?

State Social Services
In spite of a super-majority of dems, we continually cut social services to the point that a friend has way more than 100 disabled and senior clients. It is impossible for these social workers to do these people justice and she feels she has become nothing more than a data entry clerk. (and if you think senior care is bad, try looking at the ratio for foster services) Given that these people don't have time to do their jobs, why on earth does the state conduct more and more useless audits, costing $, adding more data work, more time spent away from her clients and do nothing to solve the obvious problem: too many people with needs and not enough people to take care of them and more managers with little or no field experience making stupid, impractical decisions.

health care
Why did John Kitzhaber let 19 year old Brandy Stroedar die then proving the double lung transplant she needed? The procedure has work before and why did he consider it "experimental"? Would he continue to let people die then to let procedures use to save people that might be considered experimental? If the person could raise money to have a procedure, how much money would they have to raise before Kitzhaber would be willing to contribute state money for a life saving procedure?

Education?
I'd like to know when we are going to stop this dance of problems with funding our schools?

Back in the 1980's My parents passed the Lottery.  It was touted to solve the problems with school funding.. well, the legislators dropped any amount from the general funds for schools so they had more for their "pet projects", then, they hacked away at the lottery dollars so there is not enough to go around.
I am tired of having more and more taxes to pay for something that was SUPPOSED to be fully funded already!  I am tired of more police and jails to house criminals when it is a known fact that education helps stave off crime.

In what ways would you solve some of the problems that our crippled federal government doesn't see capable of addressing. New jobs and univerasal health care come to mind.

Education question
Recently the entire staff at Central Falls High School (RI) was fired due to students' low test scores and graduation rates.  The federal statute under which the educators were fired states that no more than 50% of them may be hired back.  Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has applauded the mass firing.

As governor of Oregon, would you support or approve of mass teacher firings based on their students' test scores?  Or under any circumstance?

Health Care
4 years ago, I made thousands of calls telling people to vote "Ted for Gov" for "good jobs, quality schools, affordable health care and safe communities". Now 4 years later I've lost my "good job" and am barely hanging onto my health insurance through subsidized COBRA.
1. Do the candidates believe ALL Oregonians have a right to access affordable health care? 2. What are the specific plans to accomplish this?
